The View: RFK Jr., Addiction, and Aliens Spark Heated Debate
The set of daytime talk show The View became a battleground of opinions on Tuesday, February 17, as co-hosts and guest host Savannah Chrisley grappled with the controversial decisions and past struggles of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The discussion, which touched on addiction, mental health, and even extraterrestrial life, saw Whoopi Goldberg stepping in to steer the conversation.
While many of the regular co-hosts expressed dismay regarding RFK Jr.’s actions, Savannah Chrisley offered a different perspective. She commended him for raising awareness about the ongoing addiction crisis.
Whoopi Goldberg’s Personal Connection to Addiction
Whoopi Goldberg, who has openly discussed her own past battles with addiction, shared her empathy. “You know, I’ve walked that path, I have walked that path, and yeah, it is very hard to sometimes clean up, and to get the help you need,” Goldberg stated. She added, “It would be helpful if, as the czar, he put some money into a lot of programs that could be helpful.”
Sara Haines, another co-host, echoed Goldberg’s sentiments, expressing her disappointment that the country has been “cutting back” on vital mental health programs.
Savannah Chrisley Defends RFK Jr.’s Stance on Mental Health
Savannah Chrisley, known for her role in reality television, offered a robust defence of RFK Jr.’s approach to mental health issues. She argued that progress is being made within the administration, drawing a stark parallel between the closure of mental health facilities and the subsequent surge in the prison population.
“But even with HHS… in HHS history, there have only been three doctors that were their secretaries,” the Chrisley Knows Best alum pointed out, seemingly defending RFK Jr.’s qualifications or approach.

Whoopi Goldberg Cuts Off Joy Behar’s Provocative Question
The conversation took a sharp turn when Joy Behar, known for her direct questioning, made a pointed remark about the politician’s past drug use. “Have they all been on heroin?” Behar quipped, referencing RFK Jr.’s history. Chrisley’s lighthearted response, “Who knows? Maybe!” seemed to fuel Behar’s line of inquiry.
However, Whoopi Goldberg intervened decisively. “The bottom line is, RFK Jr., we could use some help,” Goldberg declared, attempting to bring the focus back to policy.
Behar, undeterred, then posed a direct question about drugs. “Can I ask a question about drugs?” she inquired.
“No. We’ll be right back,” Goldberg stated, her deadpan delivery leading to laughter from Behar and a swift transition to a commercial break.

Disagreement Extends to Extraterrestrial Life
The discussions on The View didn’t stop at political figures and addiction. The co-hosts and Chrisley also found themselves at odds over the existence of aliens, a topic brought to the forefront by Barack Obama’s confession that he believes in extraterrestrial life.
After Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin revealed their own beliefs in alien life, they turned to Chrisley for her opinion.
“No, I go by the Bible, and there is nowhere in the Bible that says God created aliens,” the podcast host explained, firmly rooted in her faith.

Goldberg, ever the counter-argumentalist, offered a theological perspective. “I will point out here that that’s all that our Bible says… Since God created everything, I kind of feel like God was busy while he created all the moons and the stars and all the things that exist. So if somebody says that there are aliens…”
Chrisley responded with a simple, “Bless your soul.”
The EGOT winner, Goldberg, then elaborated on her point, stating, “That’s right, because God can do anything. OK? So let’s not, let’s not say God couldn’t have created it, because we know God can do anything.”

The episode underscored the diverse viewpoints and spirited debates that are a hallmark of The View, covering sensitive personal issues and broader societal questions with candour and, at times, a touch of humour.
