Will.i.am, the visionary behind the Black Eyed Peas and a fervent tech innovator, is pioneering a new era of urban mobility with his groundbreaking venture, Trinity. This ambitious project centres on the development of three-wheeled, electric autocylces infused with artificial intelligence agents, designed to redefine how we navigate and interact with our cities. The musician turned entrepreneur recently unveiled the Trinity autocycle at Nvidia’s annual developer conference, a significant event held in the heart of Silicon Valley.
“I consider myself an artistic creator, and technology is the engine that powers that creativity,” will.i.am shared during the conference. “While collaborating with fellow musicians is immensely rewarding, venturing into the world of full-stack developers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and world builders opens up an entirely new dimension of hyper-creativity. It’s the pinnacle of inventive exploration.”
The startup itself, aptly named Trinity, symbolises a profound convergence of human intelligence, advanced vehicle technology, and sophisticated agentic AI. The single-passenger electric vehicle, which shares its name with the parent company, is engineered to be driven by a human but is augmented by an AI agent that functions as an intelligent virtual assistant. This AI is designed for seamless, conversational collaboration, transforming the commute into a productive and engaging experience.
“Imagine a future where every individual has their own AI agent,” will.i.am elaborated. “For a company, this translates into having a super-employee. Commuting can become a time for brainstorming and delegating tasks to your Trinity AI agent through simple conversation. Your vehicle, the very one that transported you to work, becomes an integral part of your professional toolkit. While you’re focused on your tasks inside the office, your Trinity is actively working for you in the parking lot, truly embodying the concept of ‘brains on wheels’.”
The Trinity autocycle boasts impressive performance capabilities, designed to accelerate from zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) with remarkable quickness. At its core, the vehicle is powered by an Nvidia graphics processor, enabling its advanced AI to interpret and process information about its surrounding environment with sophisticated reasoning abilities.
Further underscoring his commitment to innovation and workforce development, will.i.am plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Los Angeles. This facility will not only produce the Trinity vehicles but will also serve as a dedicated educational hub for robotics and agentic AI systems, nurturing the next generation of tech talent.
Reflecting on the journey of bringing Trinity to life, will.i.am admitted, “I approached this project with a potent blend of ambition, audacity, and a touch of naivety. This combination is crucial, because without that element of being a little bit naive, and if skepticism were to dominate every decision, one would likely shy away from taking the truly audacious risks necessary for groundbreaking innovation.”
The initial production run is slated for 500 units, with the company aiming to commence deliveries in August of next year. A key objective is to maintain the vehicle’s price point below the $30,000 mark, making this cutting-edge technology more accessible to a wider audience. The Trinity autocycle represents not just a new mode of transport, but a paradigm shift in personal and professional productivity, integrating AI into the very fabric of our daily lives.
