Cillian Murphy and Yvonne McGuinness Shine at the 2026 IFTA Awards
The glitz and glamour of the 2026 Irish Film & Television Awards (IFTAs) descended upon Dublin’s Royal Convention Centre, drawing a constellation of stars from the Emerald Isle and beyond. While the night was filled with anticipation for the coveted awards, it was the rare public appearance of Cillian Murphy alongside his wife, Yvonne McGuinness, that truly captivated onlookers on the red carpet.
Murphy, the 49-year-old acclaimed actor and a familiar face on screens worldwide, especially for his iconic role in Peaky Blinders, arrived with his long-time partner on Friday evening. The couple, known for their discretion and infrequent public outings, made a striking impression as they navigated the photographers’ flashbulbs.
Yvonne McGuinness, a talented artist in her own right, looked every bit the part of a film premiere guest, opting for a sophisticated pink satin maxi dress. Her elegant ensemble was complemented by classic black heels and a chic coordinating clutch bag, proving that understated style can make a powerful statement. Cillian, ever the dapper gentleman, was seen with one arm affectionately around Yvonne as they posed for a moment before heading into the main event.
The Oppenheimer star is no stranger to the IFTA stage. He arrived at the 2026 ceremony nominated for Lead Actor in Film for his compelling performance in Netflix’s Steve. This nomination positions him to potentially secure a remarkable third consecutive win in the category, a testament to his consistent and powerful contributions to cinema. Murphy previously clinched the award in 2024 for his lauded role in Oppenheimer and again in 2025 for his work in Small Things Like These.
This year, the Cork native faces stiff competition. His fellow nominees in the Lead Actor in Film category include:
- Steve Coogan for Saipan
- Daniel Day-Lewis for Anemone
- Colin Farrell for Ballad of a Small Player
- Éanna Hardwicke for Saipan
- Daniel Power for Christy

While the cameras briefly focused on Cillian and Yvonne, the red carpet was a vibrant showcase of talent, with many attendees embracing the opportunity to present their finest fashion. The 2026 IFTAs proved to be a night for star spotting, with a host of familiar faces gracing the event.
Among the notable attendees was Jessie Buckley, who made the trip to Dublin, taking a break from her demanding schedule to join the celebrations. Also present were Alison Oliver, known for her role in Wuthering Heights, and Steve Coogan, who was nominated alongside Murphy.

The star power continued with a strong contingent from the popular series House of Guinness. Actors Anthony Boyle, Danielle Galligan, Jack Gleeson, and Fionn O’Shea were all spotted on the carpet, adding to the evening’s buzz. Further adding to the impressive guest list were Derry Girls stars Jamie-Lee O’Donnell and writer Lisa McGee, as well as Lola Petticrew, an actor recognised for her work in Say Nothing and Trespasses.
The event underscored the incredible depth of talent within the Irish film and television industry, celebrating both established names and emerging stars. The night promised to be a memorable occasion, filled with recognition, camaraderie, and undoubtedly, some exciting wins.
