Zelda: Twilight Princess’s PC Port Near Release with Playable Linkle Mod

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Gets a Fan-Made PC Port

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is set to make its way to PC through a fan-made port. This development follows the success of other fan-made ports like Jak 3, which has already gained attention for its playable PC version. The Twilight Princess port is based on a decompilation of the original game code, a complex reverse-engineering process that results in completely rewritten code capable of running natively on PC.

Decompilation and Development Process

While the decompilation of Twilight Princess was completed in late 2025, transforming that code into a playable PC port requires significant effort. The volunteer developers behind the project, titled “Twilight Princess: Courage Reborn,” recently showcased their progress in a video. The game’s long introductory segment, set in Link’s home village, appears to be functioning well without any crashes. According to the video, several key features are being implemented:

  • Native 60 fps support
  • Support for Mac and Linux in addition to Windows
  • Mouse and keyboard input alongside controllers
  • A modified main menu with graphics options, available both in the menu and in-game

“The main goal is to get to open source now,” the video states. Currently, development is taking place on the project’s Discord server, but as the port approaches a beta-level release, it is expected to be hosted on GitHub.

No Nintendo Assets Included

It’s important to note that the Twilight Princess: Courage Reborn port does not include any of Nintendo’s proprietary assets. The code itself is distinct, and players must provide their own copy of the original game—ripped from a GameCube disc—to supply the port’s executable with all the necessary art and sound assets.

Modding Community Already at Work

Unlike typical modding efforts that emerge after a game’s release, the Twilight Princess PC port has already attracted modders who are working on modifications before the official release. In a surprising twist, Link’s counterpart, Linkle, appears to be playable as soon as the port becomes available. This development highlights the dedication of the Zelda community and the potential for new content to emerge even before the game is officially released.

Future Expectations

As the project progresses, more details about the port’s features and capabilities are expected to surface. The community-driven nature of this endeavor ensures that fans will have a say in the final product. With the promise of higher resolutions, improved performance, and cross-platform support, the Twilight Princess: Courage Reborn port is poised to bring a beloved classic to a new audience.
