Zendaya’s 2026 Disappearing Act

Zendaya’s Packed 2026 Slate: A “Year of Z” Followed by a Well-Earned Break

The entertainment world is abuzz with the announcement of Zendaya’s incredibly busy 2026, a year that has already been dubbed the “year of Z.” With a slate featuring four films and a major television series, the acclaimed actress is set to dominate screens. However, she’s already hinted that after this whirlwind period, she plans to “disappear for a little bit” to recharge.

Responding to the host of Fandango’s Big Ticket, who coined the phrase “year of Z,” the Emmy-winning star expressed her hope that audiences won’t tire of her. “I just hope people don’t get sick of me and I appreciate everyone who supports any of the movies, supports my career in any kind of way. I’m deeply appreciative,” she stated. She then added with a touch of humour, “I just hope you guys don’t get sick of me this year because I’ll tell you what, after this, I’m disappearing for a little bit. I’m going to have to go into hiding for just a little bit.”

The 29-year-old’s cinematic onslaught begins on April 3rd with the release of A24’s The Drama. In this highly anticipated film, Zendaya shares the screen with Robert Pattinson. Just a week later, fans can dive back into the world of HBO’s Euphoria for its third season. Zendaya will reprise her critically acclaimed role as Rue, a performance that has already earned her two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

July promises a double dose of blockbuster action. First, audiences will see Zendaya in Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey. Immediately following that, she’ll be back in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Notably, she stars alongside her real-life partner, Tom Holland, in both of these major productions.

The romance between Zendaya and Holland, which began on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming, has been a subject of much public interest. Speculation about their marital status has been particularly fervent since Zendaya’s long-time stylist, Law Roach, alluded to a wedding having already taken place in a recent interview. However, neither Zendaya nor Holland has publicly confirmed they are married, adding an air of mystery to their relationship.

Rounding out Zendaya’s monumental year will be Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three, slated for a December 18th release. This highly anticipated conclusion to the Dune saga is expected to be a major cinematic event.

Controversy Surrounds The Drama‘s Plot Twist

While Zendaya’s 2026 is shaping up to be a triumph, The Drama has already courted controversy due to a significant plot revelation at its core. In the film, Zendaya’s character, Emma, confesses to her fiancé, Charlie (played by Robert Pattinson), and their friends that she had once contemplated a high school shooting but ultimately did not go through with the act.

This narrative choice has drawn sharp criticism from Tom Mauser, the father of Daniel Mauser, who was tragically killed in the 1999 Columbine High School massacre. Mauser, who has been a vocal advocate for gun reform for the past 25 years, expressed his disgust to TMZ, calling it “awful” to utilise such a sensitive and serious subject as a plot device within a romantic comedy.

Although Mauser has not yet seen the film, he voiced concerns that it could inadvertently “humanise” perpetrators of such violence and contribute to the “normalisation” of school shootings. It is important to note that the film itself does not depict any scenes of mass violence.

Zendaya’s upcoming projects highlight her versatility and undeniable star power, cementing her status as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after talents. While 2026 promises an unprecedented showcase of her abilities, her intention to take a hiatus afterwards suggests a thoughtful approach to her career longevity and personal well-being.
