“Invincible” Soars Back: Adult Animation Masterpiece Continues to Captivate Audiences
A critically acclaimed superhero series, widely regarded as one of the finest shows gracing our screens, has made a triumphant return, much to the delight of its dedicated fanbase. The show in question is Invincible, a compelling adult animated adaptation of the beloved graphic novels penned by Robert Kirkman and illustrated by Cory Walker. It chronicles the extraordinary journey of Mark Grayson, a seemingly ordinary high school student whose life is irrevocably altered by the revelation that his father, Nolan Grayson, is none other than Omni-Man, one of the planet’s most formidable super-powered protectors.
As Mark grapples with his burgeoning abilities, he embraces the mantle of the superhero ‘Invincible’. Armed with incredible super-strength and the power of flight, he dedicates himself to safeguarding Earth from a myriad of threats. Yet, in true coming-of-age fashion, Mark’s path is fraught with the universal challenges of adolescence: balancing his superhero duties with the complexities of growing up and striving to embody the heroic legacy he was destined for.
First gracing the screens of Prime Video in 2021, Invincible immediately garnered widespread critical praise and a substantial viewership. Its sophomore season premiered in 2023, and the series has consistently delivered new episodes annually since its inception. The latest instalment launched on Wednesday, March 18th, with fans eagerly devouring the initial three episodes. Early reactions suggest the show has lost none of its potent magic, with many proclaiming it to be as compelling as ever.
Journalist David Opie lauded the series, stating that Invincible “might be one of the all-time great comic book shows.” This sentiment is echoed by countless fans who have taken to social media to express their enthusiasm. One viewer enthused on X/Twitter, “INVINCIBLE S4 has such an incredible first couple of episodes. The first 15 minutes of episode two in particular is honestly the show at its best.” Another echoed this sentiment, declaring, “The best animated show out right now is 100% Invincible. What a show.”
The stellar voice cast continues to anchor the series, with Steven Yeun, J.K. Simmons, and Sandra Oh reprising their roles as the central characters. Joining the ensemble this season is Danai Gurira, Yeun’s former co-star from the immensely popular The Walking Dead. Also lending their talents to the show is Matthew Rhys, recently recognised for his role in the Netflix thriller The Beast in Me.
The series boasts an impressive roster of past voice talent, including Seth Rogen, who also serves as a co-producer on the show, Sterling K. Brown, Aaron Paul, and Ezra Miller. Miller, who previously voiced the character of scientist DA Sinclair, was succeeded by Eric Bauza from the second season onwards. Both Yeun and Brown have earned Emmy nominations for their exceptional voice performances, underscoring the calibre of talent involved.

Adding further star power to the already formidable ensemble are Tim Robinson, Rhea Seehorn, Rob Delaney, and Fallout star Ella Purnell.
Invincible has firmly established itself as a critical triumph, with an impressive fifth season already greenlit even before the arrival of the current one. As of this writing, the new season commands a perfect score of 100 per cent on the review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, a remarkable 11 out of the 27 episodes released to date have achieved a score exceeding nine out of ten on IMDb, a testament to the show’s consistent quality.
Often likened to an animated counterpart to Prime Video’s ultra-violent superhero hit The Boys, Invincible is readily available for streaming. Fans of this genre will also be anticipating the final season of The Boys, slated for release in April, alongside the upcoming spin-off Vought Rising, which is set to feature Aya Cash, Jensen Ackles, and Nicolo Pasetti in the coming year.
