The trend has sparked widespread concern among experts, who warn about the potential harm caused by these practices. For instance, some participants engage in “bone smashing,” where they use a hammer to strike their cheeks and jaw bones, believing it can reshape their faces. This method is not only painful but also potentially dangerous, leading to microfractures and long-term damage.
During a recent televised interview on 60 Minutes Australia, Clavicular was confronted about his association with misogynistic subcultures such as incels and Andrew Tate. Incels, or involuntary celibates, are men who blame women for their lack of romantic success. Tate, a controversial figure known for his misogynistic views, is set to face trial for alleged human trafficking in Romania. Clavicular denied any connection to these groups, stating that looksmaxxing is about self-improvement and escaping the incel label.
The interview took a tense turn when the reporter, Adam Hegarty, questioned Clavicular about his associations with controversial figures. In response, Clavicular abruptly ended the interview, claiming that the discussion had become political. Aesthetic surgeon Angie Taras criticized the practices associated with looksmaxxing, calling them “shocking” and emphasizing the lack of scientific evidence supporting these methods. Seilder emphasized that many participants in the trend come from traumatic backgrounds, raising questions about what drives a young person to engage in such extreme behaviors. While Clavicular is known for his extreme methods, he has also faced criticism for promoting misogynistic views. In March, he was arrested on battery charges after an incident involving his girlfriend and a 19-year-old woman. Police determined that he instigated a fight, which he filmed and posted online, further highlighting the problematic nature of his actions.
As the trend continues to gain attention, it is crucial to address the underlying psychological and societal factors driving young men to seek extreme solutions for self-improvement.
