Tina Turner’s Legacy Acquired by Swedish Entertainment Group Pophouse
The iconic name, image, and likeness of the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” Tina Turner, along with the majority share of her extensive music catalogue, have been acquired by Swedish entertainment company Pophouse Entertainment. This significant acquisition marks a new chapter in preserving and promoting the legendary artist’s enduring legacy.
Pophouse Entertainment, co-founded by Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA fame, is renowned for its innovative approach to entertainment, particularly its pioneering work with digital avatars and immersive live experiences. The company was instrumental in the creation of the highly successful “ABBA Voyage” show in London, which features digital representations of the Swedish supergroup performing at their peak.
While Pophouse CEO Jessica Koravos has remained tight-lipped about the financial specifics of the deal, she expressed the company’s strong interest in Turner, citing her “incredible visual presence and such an incredible stage energy.” Koravos indicated that Pophouse is keen on developing projects that can effectively capture and recreate this powerful essence.
“What we want to do is really help to consolidate her legacy,” Koravos stated, drawing parallels between Turner’s cultural impact and that of other legendary figures. “I think that Tina Turner is up there, or is going to be up there, with the Elvises and the Marilyn Monroes of the world.”
When questioned about the possibility of a digital avatar for Tina Turner, following the acquisition from music company BMG, Koravos did not confirm or deny the development but promised that Pophouse would unveil its plans within the next six months.
Tina Turner, a global music phenomenon whose electrifying performances and powerful voice captivated audiences for decades, passed away in 2023 at the age of 83. Her illustrious career spanned multiple decades, during which she garnered an impressive 12 Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award. Turner was also inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame not once, but twice, in 1991 and again in 2021, a testament to her lasting influence. Further cementing her status as a cultural icon, she was honoured at the prestigious Kennedy Centre in 2005. Globally, her music has sold over 150 million records, solidifying her place as one of the best-selling artists of all time.
Discussions regarding the Pophouse acquisition commenced after Turner’s passing. BMG will continue to hold a portion of her music catalogue. While Turner’s estate was not a direct counterparty in the sale, they were kept informed and involved in the conversations surrounding the deal.
Alistair Norbury, president of BMG U.K., Continental Europe and APAC, remarked on Turner’s profound impact: “Tina Turner’s voice and spirit shaped modern music and popular culture. Our responsibility, alongside Pophouse and the Estate, is to ensure her work continues to resonate with audiences around the world, while remaining true to the strength, independence and originality that defined her career.”
Pophouse’s Growing Portfolio of Iconic Artists
Pophouse Entertainment has been strategically expanding its investments beyond Sweden in recent years, focusing on acquiring rights and intellectual property from globally recognised artists. In 2024, the hard rock band Kiss sold their entire catalogue, brand name, and intellectual property to Pophouse in a deal reportedly valued at over $300 million. This followed a successful partnership where Pophouse helped develop digitised avatars of the band, which were unveiled during the final night of their 2023 farewell tour.
The cutting-edge avatar technology was developed in collaboration with Industrial Light & Magic, George Lucas’s renowned special-effects company. This same partnership was behind the groundbreaking “ABBA Voyage” show in London, where audiences can experience the Swedish band as they were in their prime, brought to life by their digital counterparts.
Adding to its impressive roster, Pophouse also entered into a significant partnership with Cyndi Lauper in 2024, which included the acquisition of the majority share of her music catalogue. Lauper expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting that Pophouse’s approach differed from traditional record labels.

“Most suits, when you tell them an idea, their eyes glaze over, they just want your greatest hits,” Lauper commented at Pophouse’s Stockholm headquarters. “But these guys are a multimedia company, they’re not looking to just buy my catalogue, they want to make something new.”
Pophouse CEO Jessica Koravos elaborated on the company’s unique appeal to artists and estates. “I think what interests artists, and the estates of artists in some cases, is that there aren’t very many people who are talking to them about what they want to achieve, creatively, around their body of work,” she explained. “So I think that is interesting to people, it’s interesting to artists, who have got creative projects in their heads that they would like some support in realising. And those are the people we’re interested in talking to.”
Koravos emphasised Pophouse’s commitment to quality over quantity. “We’re not trying to be a major (label),” she stated. “It’s not a volume game for us. We want to acquire 10 or 12 really unique properties that have even more unique projects attached to them.” This strategic focus suggests that Pophouse aims to curate a collection of highly impactful legacies, fostering creative innovation and ensuring that the works of artists like Tina Turner continue to inspire future generations.
