Anthony Kim’s Powerful Message to Tiger Woods Amidst DUI Arrest
The golfing world has been abuzz following the recent DUI arrest of legend Tiger Woods. In the wake of this news, LIV Golf star Anthony Kim, who has openly shared his own journey of sobriety, has extended a message of support and encouragement to Woods, urging him to find strength in faith.
Woods, aged 50, was apprehended on Friday afternoon after a high-speed incident on a residential road in Jupiter Island, Florida. Reports indicate that Woods was attempting to overtake a truck and trailer at excessive speed when his SUV clipped the rear of the vehicle, resulting in his own car overturning onto its side. Following the crash, Woods reportedly exited his vehicle through the passenger side window. Law enforcement officials state that Woods subsequently refused to provide a urine sample, leading to his arrest on charges of driving under the influence (DUI), property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

Kim, a golfer who has navigated his own public battle with drug and alcohol addiction, took to social media to address Woods’ situation. “Dunno wat @tigerwoods is dealin w & it isn’t my business,” Kim wrote on X. “As some1 who has & will always deal w my own issues like every other human I pray the man who positively influenced my life and millions of others overcomes wat he is going thru. Trust GOD.” He further emphasised his commitment to sobriety with the statement, “SOBER is DOPE,” accompanied by a flame emoji.

Kim’s own remarkable comeback story in professional golf serves as a powerful backdrop to his message. After bursting onto the global scene following his professional debut in 2006, Kim achieved significant success, including holding the record for the most birdies in a single round at The Masters with 11, securing three PGA Tour victories, and being a Ryder Cup champion. However, his career was put on hold in 2014 due to struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, a battle that took him nearly a decade to overcome.

Having achieved three years of sobriety, Kim made a triumphant return to professional golf in February, clinching the LIV Adelaide title. He impressively outplayed a field that included notable names like Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, and Bryson DeChambeau. Upon hoisting the trophy in Australia, Kim shared his motivation: “When I was in rehab, that was my goal. So absolutely my goal is to inspire the people that are struggling because I feel like the world needs more of that.” His core lesson for those facing similar challenges is simple yet profound: “Don’t fing quit. That’s it. Don’t fing quit.”
A Troubled History of Incidents
Friday’s accident is unfortunately not the first instance of Woods facing legal trouble related to his driving. His history includes a significant crash in California in 2021, which resulted in severe fractures to his right leg and necessitated multiple surgeries.

Prior to that, in 2017, Woods was arrested for his first DUI. Police found him disoriented in his vehicle in Florida, with five different drugs detected in his system, including painkillers.

Despite these setbacks and the ongoing physical challenges from his injuries, Woods has remained determined to return to competitive golf. He recently participated in the TGL finals just days before his latest arrest. Speculation had even mounted about a potential return at The Masters next month, a prospect that now appears more distant.
The Arrest and Investigation
Law enforcement released Woods’ mugshot shortly after 10 pm, revealing puffy and bloodshot eyes. He was later released on bail and departed the jail amidst a crowd of fans and reporters.

At the accident scene, Woods reportedly passed a breathalyzer test, registering “triple zeros.” However, he twice refused to provide a urine sample – once at the roadside and again at the jail. Sheriff Budensiek explained that Woods was cooperative but mindful of not incriminating himself. While he cooperated with the breathalyzer at the jail, he declined the urine test.
The Sheriff noted that Woods has the legal right to refuse the urine test, which will result in a statutory charge. However, this refusal means that definitive results regarding any substances he may have been impaired by at the time of the crash will not be obtained.
