Akatsi North District Empowers Persons with Disabilities Through Essential Item Distribution

Ave Dakpa, Volta Region – In a significant display of commitment to inclusivity and socio-economic empowerment, the Akatsi North District Assembly (ANDA) has distributed a comprehensive array of essential items and materials to fifty-three Persons With Disabilities (PWDs). The impactful ceremony, held in Ave Dakpa, the district capital, underscored the government’s and the Assembly’s dedication to addressing the needs of vulnerable citizens and fostering their contribution to community development.

The distributed items, valued at thousands of Ghana Cedis, were meticulously selected to meet the specific requirements and expressed needs of each beneficiary. This initiative represents the second phase of such distributions this year, highlighting a sustained effort to uplift the lives of PWDs within the district.

The support provided was diverse, reflecting a holistic approach to empowerment. Beneficiaries received items crucial for their mobility, livelihood, and daily well-being. These included:

  • Mobility Aids: Tricycles and automated bicycles were provided to enhance personal transportation and independence.
  • Business and Entrepreneurship Support: Deep freezers and corn mills were distributed to facilitate the establishment and expansion of small businesses and entrepreneurial ventures.
  • Community and Infrastructure Development: Plastic chairs were donated for community gatherings, while polytanks were provided for essential water storage solutions.
  • Agricultural and Construction Resources: Beneficiaries received bags of fertilizers and cement, supporting farming activities and home improvement projects.
  • Shelter and Income Generation: Roofing sheets were distributed to aid in shelter improvement, and industrial machines were provided as tools for income generation.
  • Healthcare Assistance: Cash assistance was also allocated to help cover medical expenses.

A Government Committed to Human-Centered Policies

During the event, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Akatsi North District, Hon. Bless Kodjo Katamani, extended profound gratitude to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, led by His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, and the Member of Parliament for the Akatsi North Constituency, Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe. He lauded their leadership in championing human-centered policies that have a tangible impact not only within the district but across the nation.

Hon. Katamani assured PWDs who are yet to receive support that further assistance is forthcoming. He strongly urged the current beneficiaries to utilize the provided items judiciously, emphasizing their potential to significantly transform their lives for the better. Reaffirming his dedication, the DCE stated that his doors remain open for ongoing discussions and meetings concerning the challenges faced by PWDs in the district.

The DCE took the opportunity to highlight a range of ongoing development projects within the district, all initiated under the current NDC administration. These projects, he explained, are strategically designed to uplift the community and improve the overall living conditions of its residents.

Furthermore, Hon. Katamani expressed his sincere appreciation to the traditional authorities for their unwavering unity and consistent support since he assumed office in April of the current year.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of distinguished traditional leaders, key executives from the NDC party, and several influential community figures, underscoring the collective importance placed on this initiative.
