A Tragic Story of Love, Fear, and Loss
Anita Mugweru’s life was cut short in a violent act that left her family, friends, and community in shock. Her husband, Edwin Muthomi, a KDF soldier, was the one who took her life. The events leading up to her death were marked by fear, warnings, and a troubled marriage that seemed to spiral out of control.
The Last Conversation
One of Anita’s closest friends, Abby Mish, shared details about their last conversation just hours before the tragedy. In a series of videos posted on TikTok, Mish revealed how she had warned Anita to stay away from Edwin, fearing for her safety. “On the fateful day, I talked to her and told her to stay away from Edwin. I told her he could douse her with acid or stab her with a knife,” Mish said. She also mentioned that other friends had given similar warnings, urging Anita to leave Edwin before it was too late.
Mish recalled a time when Edwin had threatened Anita, saying, “If you ever leave me for another man, I’ll harm you.” This kind of intimidation was not uncommon in their relationship. According to Mish, Anita had reported Edwin to the police multiple times, but nothing changed. Despite this, she continued to face threats and violence.
The Final Days
In the days leading up to her death, Anita had planned to meet Edwin on April 18 to finalize their divorce. However, she never got the chance. On April 14, Mish called Anita and advised her not to sleep in their house that night. “I told her not to sleep in her house on that night,” she recalled.
Mish also shared how Anita had moved out of their home in 2025 and settled in a gated community. But after reuniting with Edwin, things took a turn for the worse. Edwin started accumulating debts and became an alcoholic. During this time, Anita took care of him, even as he grew more unstable.
The Day of the Tragedy
The incident occurred on the day of the argument. According to the househelp, Anita returned home from work and there was a heated discussion with Edwin. He then went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and stabbed her. The househelp described how Anita tried to get help from neighbors, but only one came to her aid while others watched from their balconies.
Anita was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
A Friend’s Tribute
In addition to Mish’s account, Anita’s male friend, Dave Sirikal, shared an emotional tribute on social media. He posted photos of Anita and his classmates from their university days at Egerton University in 2015, reminiscing about their good times. Sirikal demanded justice for his friend, emphasizing that she did not deserve such a painful end.
