A Heartwarming Reconnection
Antonio Banderas recently shared a rare photo on Instagram that captured a special moment with his ex-wife, Melanie Griffith. The 65-year-old Spanish actor posted the image on Monday morning, marking a cozy dinner they enjoyed over the weekend. Their relationship, which spanned from 1996 to 2015, has remained amicable, and the photo highlights their enduring bond.
In the caption, Banderas praised Griffith, who is the daughter of Tippi Hedren, known for her role in “The Birds.” He referred to the 68-year-old Oscar-nominated actress as his “lifelong friend,” emphasizing the deep connection they still share. The image shows them sitting together on a sofa, laughing, while their 29-year-old daughter, Stella Banderas, was also in the frame with her husband, Alex Gruszynski.
Banderas wrote: “A lovely and fun moment yesterday in Los Angeles with my son-in-law Alex, my daughter Stella, and my ex-wife and lifelong friend, Melanie.” 
This recent post comes shortly after the couple was spotted leaving the Japanese restaurant Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills on Saturday. They were seen walking arm in arm, dressed casually, with Stella following closely behind. The footage suggests that despite their divorce, they have maintained a close friendship.
A Lasting Friendship
In 2019, Banderas spoke about his relationship with Griffith during an interview with Vulture. He described her as “family” and “one of my best friends.” “I am not married with Melanie anymore, but she is my family,” he said. “She is probably one of my best friends, if not the best friend that I have. My family is there, Dakota, Little Estella and Alexander.”
Their journey began when they fell in love while working on the 1995 romantic comedy “Two Much.” They married in May 1996 and welcomed their daughter, Stella, later that September. Banderas admitted he was immediately smitten by Griffith when he first saw her at the 1989 Oscars.
He recalled: “The first time I went to the Academy Awards after we got a nomination for Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, we got on the red carpet and I saw this blonde woman and I knew her because I saw movies of her, but I didn’t remember [her name] at the time. So, I said to Pedro Almodóvar, ‘Who is she? Who is she? What is her name?’ Pedro said, ‘That’s Melanie Griffith!’ I said, ‘That’s it. Oh my God.’ Six years later, I was married to her.” 
During their marriage, Griffith even tattooed Banderas’s name inside a heart on her arm. However, their love story came to an end in 2015.
A Loving Split
In a statement announcing their split, Banderas and Griffith said: “We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost 20-year marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together – Melanie & Antonio.” 
Since their divorce, Banderas has been dating Dutch entrepreneur Nicole Kimpel for the past 12 years. Meanwhile, Griffith has had a few other relationships. She was previously married to Don Johnson, with whom she shares daughter Dakota Johnson, 36. The marriage also made her a stepmother to Johnson’s son Jesse Johnson, 43. Additionally, she shares son Alexander Griffith Bauer, 40, with her second husband, Steven Bauer.
