Leadership Transition at Arts United
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A significant change is on the horizon for Arts United as its long-serving leader prepares to step down. Dan Ross, who has held the positions of President and CEO for 17 years, has announced his retirement. His departure is set for the fall, marking the end of an era for the organization and the broader arts community in Northeast Indiana.
Ross’s journey with the arts began in 1983 when he was a musician with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. Over the decades, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the local arts scene through various capacities, including arts administration, nonprofit management, fund development, arts advocacy, and performance operations. His extensive experience and deep commitment have left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of the region.
A Legacy of Growth and Development
The board of directors for Arts United has expressed their gratitude for Ross’s contributions. Dave Haist, the board chair, highlighted the impact of Ross’s leadership, noting that it has helped secure a bright future for the organization. Among the many achievements under his tenure is the completion of the $42 million expanded and modernized Arts United Center. This project has significantly enhanced the facilities available for artists and audiences alike.
Ross’s career at Arts United began in 2009 when he was appointed Vice President of Community Development. He was later promoted to President and CEO in 2023, a testament to his leadership and vision. During his time in these roles, he spearheaded several key initiatives aimed at modernizing and expanding the organization. These include the “A Soaring Vision” capital campaign for the Arts United Center and the “A Home for the Arts” campaign, which focused on purchasing and updating the Auer Center for Arts & Culture.
Reflections on a Remarkable Journey
In reflecting on his time with Arts United, Ross expressed his appreciation for the support he has received from the community and the dedicated staff and board members. “It has been a tremendous honor and pleasure to work with the talented board and staff of Arts United for the past 17 years. I am thankful for the support of the community for the work we have accomplished together and excited about the future of Arts United and the growing impact of arts and culture in Northeast Indiana,” he said.
Looking Ahead
As Ross prepares to retire, the board of directors is now tasked with finding a new President and CEO to lead Arts United into the future. The search is expected to be completed by the fall, when Ross will officially conclude his tenure with the organization.
The transition marks not only the end of an individual’s career but also the beginning of a new chapter for Arts United. With a strong foundation built over the years, the organization is well-positioned to continue its mission of promoting and supporting the arts in Northeast Indiana.
