Usman Khawaja Welcomes Third Daughter, Reflects on Inspiring Journey
Former Australian international cricketer Usman Khawaja and his wife, Rachel, have joyfully announced the arrival of their third child, a daughter named Amira Maya Khawaja. The heartwarming news was shared on Instagram, featuring a tender moment of the family together in the hospital.
“3 from 3. Amira Maya Khawaja born last Friday,” the couple posted, expressing their profound gratitude for their new addition. “We are so grateful. Another beautiful girl. 8 more to for a full team! Alhamdulillah.” This marks the couple’s third daughter, following Aisha, born in 2020, and Ayla, born in 2022.
The announcement quickly garnered congratulations from the cricketing community and beyond. Among the first to send his well wishes was fellow Australian cricketer David Warner, who quipped, “Congrats mate, must be an openers thing.” He was joined by a host of other notable figures, including Matt Renshaw, Becky Cummins (wife of Australian captain Pat Cummins), Channel 7 presenter Erin Holland, and Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi, all wishing the Khawaja family the best.

Khawaja’s recent retirement from Test cricket earlier this year has also brought to the fore his reflections on his career and the challenges he faced. During a press conference that confirmed his decision to step away from international cricket after the Sydney Test, Khawaja candidly addressed the criticisms he had encountered from some cricketing luminaries.
The star batsman, who is also the first Australian Muslim Test cricketer, used the platform to speak openly about his experiences growing up in Australia after his parents migrated from Pakistan. His voice grew emotional as he spoke about his family and the significant impact they have had on his life and career.
“I hope I have inspired many children along the way particularly those that feel that they are different,” Khawaja shared, his composure visibly tested. “Those that feel that they don’t belong. Or those told they will never make it. I felt all these things growing up while trying to be an Australian cricketer. But seeing is believing and I am here to tell you that you can do whatever you want.”

During the reading of a statement at the start of the press conference, Khawaja had to pause to gather himself when discussing his wife, Rachel, whom he described as having “changed the path of my life … and my career.” He acknowledged the immense support she provided, allowing him to pursue his cricketing dreams.
“Rachey, my beloved wife, this journey has asked more of you than it ever has for me,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “You carried our family so that I could chase my dream and I’ll always be grateful for that. And don’t worry you’ll always remind me that my international centuries came after I met you. You truly are one of my greatest blessings in life.”
Khawaja’s career has been marked by resilience, talent, and a growing willingness to speak about his identity and the broader societal issues he has navigated. His journey from a young boy with dreams of playing for Australia to a respected international cricketer and a father of three is an inspiring narrative that continues to resonate with many. The birth of Amira Maya Khawaja marks a new and joyous chapter for the Khawaja family, celebrated by a wide circle of friends, family, and fans alike.
