Australian Teen Sensation Ally Hickman Recovers After Slopestyle Scare
A promising Australian talent, 16-year-old Ally Hickman, experienced a significant scare during the women’s slopestyle final in Livigno on Wednesday. The young snowboarder from Sydney endured a heavy fall during her second run, prompting immediate medical attention.
Hickman, making her mark on the international stage, was assessed by medical professionals after a tumble on a rail feature. Eyewitnesses noted her indicating discomfort in her chest area as the team attended to her. Despite the initial pain, the determined teenager bravely returned to the course for her third and final run. While she successfully navigated the challenging rail section that had caused her previous mishap, she encountered another fall towards the end of the course.
Undeterred and showing remarkable resilience, Hickman rose to her feet and offered a reassuring wave to the cameras as she awaited her score. She was subsequently transported to a nearby clinic for a thorough assessment. The precautionary scans revealed a bruised sternum, a painful but thankfully not season-ending injury. Further X-rays and an ultrasound were conducted to ensure there were no other underlying abdominal or chest injuries.
Despite the setbacks, Hickman’s skill and determination shone through. Her impressive first run, a clean and solid performance scoring 67.70, secured her a respectable seventh place overall in the highly competitive event. This performance underscores her potential and the significant progress she has made in the sport.
The gold medal in the women’s slopestyle was claimed by Japan’s Mari Fukada, who delivered a stellar performance with a score of 87.83. New Zealander Zoi Sadowski-Synnott secured the silver medal with a close 87.48, while another Japanese competitor, Kokomo Murase, took home the bronze with a score of 85.80.
Hickman’s journey in the sport continues, and her strong showing, even with the unfortunate falls, highlights her talent and fighting spirit. Fans will undoubtedly be eager to follow her future competitions as she continues to develop and represent Australia on the world stage.
