Bail Boy’s Alleged Shopping Centre Stabbing Caught on Film

Shocking footage has surfaced, capturing the alleged moment a teenage boy, reportedly on bail, attacked a woman on an escalator in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs earlier this week. The incident has sent ripples of concern through the community, highlighting ongoing issues with knife crime in the state.

The victim, a 25-year-old woman from Mount Waverley, was on her way to work when she was attacked at the M-City Shopping Centre in Clayton, on Blackburn Road, around 7:50 am on Thursday. She sustained upper body injuries and was taken to The Alfred hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

The alleged assailant, a 16-year-old boy, has been charged with six offences, including a serious charge of committing a crime while already on bail.

Escalator Attack Caught on Camera

CCTV footage obtained from a drinks shop within the M-City shopping centre provides a chilling view of the moments leading up to the alleged assault. The video shows a relatively quiet mall as the 25-year-old woman makes her way towards the escalators.

Moments later, a young male, dressed in a white top with black sleeves, appears behind her. He maintains a short distance as she steps onto the escalator. The footage clearly depicts him keeping pace behind her as they ascend. Then, in a sudden and violent move, he appears to lunge towards her back with his right hand before swiftly turning and fleeing the scene.

By the time the woman turns around, understandably confused and likely in pain from the unexpected contact, the alleged attacker is already near the top of the escalator. He casts a brief glance over his shoulder as he retreats. A Good Samaritan nearby came to the woman’s aid and immediately contacted emergency services.

Police Response and Charges

Ambulance Victoria confirmed the woman was transported to The Alfred hospital for treatment of her injuries. Police apprehended the teenage boy shortly after the incident at a local medical centre.

The charges laid against the 16-year-old include:
* Intentionally causing injury
* Recklessly causing injury
* Assaulting someone with a weapon
* Possessing a controlled weapon
* Theft
* Committing an indictable offence while on bail

The boy has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

A Disturbing Trend in Melbourne

This incident is the second stabbing to occur in Melbourne within a 24-hour period, raising further alarm bells about public safety. Early on Friday morning, a 71-year-old man presented at a Port Melbourne cafe with three stab wounds. He was reportedly attacked by an unknown man while walking near Crighton Reserve on Liardett Street around 5:20 am. Fortunately, his injuries are not considered life-threatening. Police are actively seeking witnesses and appealing for public assistance in their investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.

Adding to the growing concern, a third violent incident saw a 15-year-old boy charged with slashing a 17-year-old with a machete in Mickleham, in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, on Friday, February 27. The 17-year-old victim has since been released from hospital. The younger boy surrendered himself to police on Wednesday and is facing seven charges. Authorities believe this attack was targeted and that a second teenager was also involved, and efforts are underway to locate that individual.

Knife Crime Remains a Pressing Issue

The recent spate of serious crimes involving bladed weapons has thrust knife crime back into the spotlight in Victoria. These incidents underscore a troubling trend that continues to plague the state.

Just last month, on March 6, 22-year-old Aidan Becker tragically lost his life after being attacked by a group of teenage boys while attempting to intervene in a robbery.

Further compounding the issue, fresh crime statistics released this week revealed a record number of knives and machetes were seized in 2025, despite the state government’s recent three-month machete amnesty initiative. This data suggests that the problem of illegal weapon possession and use remains a significant challenge for law enforcement.
