Governor Ahmad Aliyu Unveils New Strategies to Combat Banditry in Sokoto State
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, has introduced a series of new initiatives aimed at intensifying the fight against banditry. The governor emphasized that these measures are designed to make the issue a thing of the past, ensuring long-term peace and security for residents.
The announcement was made during the 17th Regular State Executive Council meeting, which took place in Sokoto on Wednesday. This meeting marked the final council session for 2025, as reported in a statement released the following day.
Governor Aliyu highlighted that the new strategies are meant to complement existing security efforts. He explained that these initiatives focus on strengthening intelligence gathering and improving coordination with various security agencies. According to the governor, current approaches have already begun showing positive results, and the new measures will further enhance the state’s ability to combat banditry effectively.
“Intelligence remains a critical factor in checkmating criminal elements,” the governor stated. “We are confident that these new initiatives will further enhance our capacity to tackle banditry decisively.”
Strengthening Security Infrastructure
Since taking office, Governor Aliyu’s administration has consistently provided support to security agencies. This includes supplying logistics and other essential resources to boost operational capacity across the 13 local government areas affected by banditry. The governor acknowledged that these efforts have played a vital role in maintaining stability and preventing further incidents.
He also called on residents to continue supporting government efforts by providing timely and useful information to security agencies. “As a government, we are ready to do all it takes to ensure that banditry becomes history in Sokoto State, but we cannot do it alone,” he said.

During the meeting, Governor Aliyu commended members of the State Executive Council for their commitment and dedication. He attributed the administration’s achievements to their support and teamwork. Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the people of the state for their prayers and cooperation, assuring them of continued dividends of democracy.
The governor also used the occasion to congratulate the newly appointed Head of the Civil Service, Abdulkadir Ahmed Mohamed, and the Senior Special Assistant on Cabinet Matters, Bande Rika. He urged them to contribute meaningfully to the realization of his administration’s nine-point Smart Innovative Agenda.
