Bauchi NNPP Demands Transparency, Backs EFCC Probe into Finance Commissioner
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Bauchi State has issued a strong call for enhanced transparency and accountability within the state’s public administration. The party has identified corruption as a significant impediment to effective governance, sustainable economic development, and the erosion of public trust within Bauchi State.
This stance was articulated in a formal statement released by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Sadiq Ayuba Matawalle. The statement, dated December 30, 2025, was subsequently shared with members of the press.
The NNPP has unequivocally declared its full support for the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This investigation focuses on the financial dealings of the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Yakubu Adamu, who is facing allegations of money laundering amounting to an estimated ₦4.6 billion.
Upholding Institutional Integrity
The party emphasized the crucial role of robust and independent institutions in preserving democratic principles and safeguarding public assets. It urged all relevant bodies to conduct their operations with the highest levels of professionalism and impartiality. The NNPP highlighted that the strength and integrity of these institutions are paramount to ensuring that public resources are managed responsibly and that the democratic process remains uncompromised.
Commissioner Urged to Step Aside
In a direct appeal, the NNPP called upon Commissioner Yakubu Adamu to voluntarily step down from his position. This request is intended to facilitate a credible and unimpeded investigation into the allegations against him. The party stressed that public office should never be utilized as a shield to protect individuals from accountability or to circumvent established due process. Maintaining public confidence requires that all individuals, regardless of their position, are subject to scrutiny when faced with serious allegations.
Broadening the Scope of Investigation
Furthermore, the NNPP has urged the EFCC to expand the scope of its current investigation. The party specifically requested that the inquiry encompass the commissioner’s entire tenure in office, not just a specific period. This broader approach, the NNPP believes, will ensure a more comprehensive understanding of any potential irregularities.
Additionally, the NNPP has called for enhanced vigilance and close monitoring of other government officials by the EFCC. This suggests a concern that the alleged misconduct might not be isolated and that a wider net of scrutiny is necessary to ensure accountability across the state administration.
Commitment to Principled Governance
The Bauchi State chapter of the NNPP reiterated its unwavering commitment to the principles of clean governance, ethical leadership, and the implementation of policies that prioritize the welfare and interests of the people of Bauchi State. The party stated that personal or political considerations must always be secondary to the public good, underscoring its dedication to a governance model that serves the citizens effectively and transparently.
