BCCI Issues Strong Warning to IPL Teams Over Code of Conduct Violations
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a clear and firm warning to all teams participating in the Indian Premier League 2026. The message is simple: any breach of the code of conduct will not be tolerated, and strict actions will follow. This comes after several incidents involving the Rajasthan Royals, which have raised concerns about the discipline of teams in the tournament.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia emphasized that the board is committed to upholding the standards of the IPL. He stated that the BCCI will take necessary steps against any team found violating the rules. This includes imposing fines, disciplinary actions, and even potential suspensions if required.
Incidents Involving Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals have been at the center of recent controversies. The team manager, Romi Bhinder, was fined for bringing his mobile phone onto the field during a league match. This action violated the regulations set by the BCCI, which strictly prohibit such behavior.
Additionally, the team’s captain, Riyan Parag, was fined 25% of his match fee for being seen using a vape inside the dressing room during a game against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur. These incidents have prompted the BCCI to reiterate its stance on maintaining decorum and professionalism within the tournament.
BCCI’s Commitment to Discipline
During the announcement of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad in Mumbai, Saikia confirmed that the BCCI is looking to enhance the rules of the IPL to ensure better discipline among the franchises. He mentioned that the board is exploring various options to address teams that fail to adhere to the norms.
Saikia explained:
“We are exploring some other options about how to bring the teams which are violating the norms. We will be taking some action. We are looking at the various terms and conditions and protocols of IPL [around] how the teams behave.”
He further highlighted that it is not just players or officials who are accountable but the entire team. The BCCI believes that maintaining a certain level of decorum is essential to protect the image of the IPL.
Team Responsibility and Accountability
Saikia added:
“It is not just players or officials. As a team, they have to maintain some decorum so that the image of the IPL is never adversely affected. To ensure that we have to take a call, and we will be taking some action.”
This statement underscores the BCCI’s belief that every member of a team plays a role in upholding the standards of the tournament.
Rajasthan Royals’ Response and Performance
Despite the controversies, Rajasthan Royals have taken steps to address the issues internally. Their coach, Kumar Sangakkara, has already spoken with BCCI officials and emphasized that the team is focused on moving forward. He stated that the team is not dwelling on past mistakes and is working to maintain a positive atmosphere.
Currently, Rajasthan Royals are in a strong position in the standings. They are sitting in 4th place with 6 wins and 4 losses in 10 games. With 12 points from 10 matches, they still have four league games left and remain in contention for the playoffs.
Future Implications
With the BCCI’s warnings, it is clear that stricter regulations will be enforced across all leagues. The board is determined to preserve the image of the Indian Premier League and ensure that all teams uphold the highest standards of conduct.
As the tournament progresses, fans and stakeholders will be watching closely to see how teams respond to these new measures. The focus will be on maintaining discipline, professionalism, and respect for the game.
