A Vision for Development: New CDA Chairman Calls for Upgrading of Lagelu Mausoleum
The newly elected Chairman of the Adeosun/Idi-Orogbo Community Development Association (CDA) in Awotan, Pastor Olusola Bobade, has made a compelling call for the Oyo State Government to transform the historic Lagelu Mausoleum into a tourism hub. This initiative, he believes, could significantly boost state revenue and foster growth in the creative industry.
During his inauguration ceremony on Saturday, Bobade highlighted the deteriorating condition of the Lagelu Mausoleum, a site of great historical significance. The mausoleum is associated with Lagelu, a renowned Ibadan warrior who chose to end his life by burying himself alive. Despite its cultural importance, the site remains in a state of disrepair, which Bobade says must be addressed urgently.
In addition to the restoration of the mausoleum, Bobade also emphasized the need for improved infrastructure within the community. He called for the construction of roads to enhance accessibility and support economic activities in the area. This, he argued, would not only improve the quality of life for residents but also attract more visitors to the region.
Commitment to Community Development
In his acceptance speech, Bobade expressed his dedication to contributing to the development of the CDA during his four-year term. He acknowledged the efforts of the electoral committee, led by Dr. Abimbola Abolarinwa and Dr. Adebisi Olasunkanmi, as well as the support from other members of the CDA during the election process. His message was clear: the success of the new administration depends on the collective effort of all stakeholders.
Bobade, who also serves as the financial secretary for Prison Fellowship Nigeria’s Oyo state chapter, stressed the importance of unity and collaboration. He urged the members of the CDA to support the new leadership team in their mission to drive progress and development in the community.
A Call for Government Action
Bobade’s appeal to the Oyo State Government extends beyond the mausoleum. While he commended the governor for the recent construction of a bridge in the community, he also highlighted the pressing need for road construction. Improved road networks, he said, would facilitate better connectivity and promote economic opportunities.
He reiterated that upgrading the Lagelu Mausoleum into a tourism center would not only preserve the region’s heritage but also create jobs and generate income. “This we believe, when upgraded, will generate more revenue for the state,” he stated. “The government can upgrade it into a tourism center where foreigners and other tourists can visit.”
Looking Ahead
Bobade concluded his speech by expressing gratitude to the community members for their support during the election and selection process. He emphasized that the success of the new CDA administration hinges on the continued backing of its members. With a clear vision and a strong commitment to the community, Bobade is poised to lead the CDA towards a future of sustainable development and growth.
