Bryson DeChambeau Withdraws from LIV Golf Mexico City
Bryson DeChambeau, a two-time U.S. Open champion, withdrew from the final round of LIV Golf Mexico City on Sunday after experiencing discomfort in his wrist during the previous day’s play. This decision marked a dramatic end to an event that had already been filled with challenges for the popular golfer and the rebel golf league.
DeChambeau made the announcement via a post on social media, where he expressed his concerns about the injury. “I experienced some discomfort in my wrist during yesterday’s round and have decided to withdraw from the final round of LIV Golf Mexico City to prevent further injury,” he said. “Not how I wanted this week to go, but wishing the Crushers a strong finish. I’m going to take a few days to get evaluated and hope to be ready for LIV Golf Virginia.”
The week had not gone as planned for DeChambeau, who struggled throughout the tournament. He was 16 shots behind Jon Rahm heading into Sunday, having posted two even par rounds and then a two-over 73 on Saturday. His performance on the course was a stark contrast to his usual form, adding to the frustration he felt during the event.

One of the most memorable moments of the week came on Thursday when DeChambeau was heard criticizing the course conditions at Club de Golf Chapultepec. During a shot from a bunker, he hit the ball over the green into an area that he described as having “destroyed grass.” In a clip shared on social media, DeChambeau sarcastically remarked, “Oh, is this rough? Definitely good to see.”
This incident highlighted the challenges that players faced on the course, which were compounded by other issues surrounding the event. The week also saw a dramatic turn on Wednesday when reports surfaced that the Saudi Public Investment Fund was considering pulling its financial support from LIV Golf. This news sent shockwaves through the golfing world and added to the uncertainty surrounding the league.

LIV Golf, which is funded through the end of the 2026 golf season, now faces significant questions about its future. While the league has managed to attract top talent and create a new format for professional golf, the recent financial concerns have raised doubts about its long-term stability.
In addition to these challenges, the Mexico City event and the league faced another embarrassment when local power outages caused technical difficulties during the broadcast of the tournament. The outage lasted for more than an hour, disrupting the coverage and causing frustration among fans and organizers alike.
Despite these setbacks, the event continued to draw attention and generate discussion within the golf community. DeChambeau’s withdrawal and the ongoing controversies surrounding LIV Golf have kept the league in the spotlight, ensuring that it remains a topic of interest for golf enthusiasts around the world.
