Cameron Diaz on Acting Break and First Child at 47

Cameron Diaz Reflects on Family, Acting, and Embracing Natural Aging

Cameron Diaz has always been known for her striking presence on the big screen, but in recent years, she has taken a step back from the spotlight to focus on her personal life. Now 53, the actress has spoken openly about her decision to take a decade-long break from acting and how it allowed her to fully embrace motherhood.

In a rare new interview, Diaz shared that she is glad she made the choice to prioritize her family. She and her husband, Benji Madden, have two children together: a daughter named Raddix, who is six years old, and a son named Cardinal, who is two. The couple’s journey as parents has clearly had a profound impact on her, with Diaz describing being a mother as “the best” part of her life.

“I’m just trying to stay alive just like every other mother,” she joked when discussing the challenges of raising children at an older age. But despite the chaos, she said she loves every moment of it.

Diaz also opened up about her approach to aging, revealing that she prefers to embrace the natural process rather than rely on cosmetic procedures. This stance comes after she spoke out against Botox and other similar treatments, which she believes altered her appearance in an unnatural way.

“I’ve tried [Botox] before, where it was like a little tiny touch of something,” she recalled. “It changed my face in such a weird way that I was like, ‘No, I don’t want to be like that.'” Her experience led her to stop wearing heavy makeup in her 40s and to reject the pressure to alter her appearance.

A source close to Diaz previously revealed that she used to feel pressured to get work done, like many others in the industry. However, she ultimately decided that the changes were not worth it. “She hated how it changed her face and swore off it years ago, and it’s really paid off because she looks fantastic and very natural, unlike a lot of her peers.”

Diaz is now making a return to acting, having recently appeared in the Apple TV film Outcome, where she stars alongside Keanu Reeves. She described the opportunity as a thrill, saying that working with someone like Reeves is “the best job in the world.” Despite taking time away from the industry, she still feels passionate about her craft.

Looking ahead, Diaz will also star in the Prime Video romantic comedy The Sham, alongside Stephen Merchant. In the film, she plays a struggling comic who needs health insurance and enters into a transactional fake marriage with a British hotel employee played by Merchant. Although their relationship begins as a business arrangement, it quickly evolves into a genuine romance.

Production on The Sham kicked off in New York City last month, though no release date has been announced yet. Fans are eagerly awaiting the film, which promises to showcase Diaz’s comedic talents once again.

As she continues to balance her career and family life, Diaz remains a symbol of authenticity and strength. Her journey highlights the importance of making choices that align with personal values, whether that means stepping away from the spotlight or embracing the natural aging process. For Diaz, it seems that the most rewarding parts of life are those that come from within.
