Carrick outlines Mainoo’s future at Man United

Michael Carrick Expresses Excitement Over Kobbie Mainoo’s New Contract

Michael Carrick has expressed his excitement over Kobbie Mainoo’s decision to commit his future to Manchester United. Carrick, who has been involved with the club in various capacities, believes that Mainoo embodies the values and traditions of the club. The midfielder signed a new five-year contract on Thursday, securing his place at Old Trafford until 2031.

However, the path to this commitment was not straightforward. Mainoo had not started a league game this season before Carrick returned in January. His performance since then has been pivotal in the team’s revival. Carrick highlighted that Mainoo’s journey reflects the club’s long-standing tradition of nurturing young talent.

He stated: “I’ve been hugely impressed with Kobbie since I’ve been here. I’ve known him quite some time in different capacities. He epitomises this football club, young players coming through the academy, living and breathing the club, and coming through with real talent. Last couple of games he’s been fantastic. Everyone is over the moon with that, including me because he deserves it.”

Mainoo has already made an impact on the pitch, scoring in an FA Cup final win for United. Carrick is hopeful that Mainoo will continue to contribute to the club’s success and lift more silverware throughout his career. He suggested that the 21-year-old could remain at Old Trafford beyond his current deal, emphasizing the importance of building a successful team.

“Hopefully he’s here for a long time and part of a successful team that wins trophies,” he added. “That has to be the aim; it’s not going to be straightforward, but that’s the challenge. For Kobbie to keep pushing and keep improving. We want to be competing for the biggest of trophies.”

Matchday Preparations and Injury Updates

Manchester United are set to host Liverpool on Sunday. Carrick remains optimistic about the return of Matheus Cunha, who missed Monday’s win over Brentford. However, there are concerns regarding the availability of key defenders.

Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez are both out due to injury and suspension, respectively. Carrick provided an update on the situation, stating: “Matheus has done a little bit of work, so we’re hopeful.” He also mentioned that Mata is still a bit further from full fitness and not involved in the game.
