Clayton Eyes Continued Premier League Dominance Amidst Injury Scare
Jonny Clayton is once again setting his sights on Luke Humphries, determined to extend his impressive streak in the Premier League Darts. The Welshman, fresh off his second weekly triumph of the year in Nottingham, overcame Humphries in the final, showcasing remarkable resilience despite battling gout in his ankle. This victory, achieved while limping, underscores Clayton’s fighting spirit and current formidable form.
Following his Nottingham success, Clayton opted to withdraw from a European Tour event in Germany to focus on recovery. Now, he appears ready to rejoin the fray and is set to face Humphries once more in the quarter-finals, a fixture that promises to be a highlight of the upcoming leg.
“Two nightly wins in the first six weeks, it’s brilliant,” Clayton expressed, clearly pleased with his performance. He currently holds a significant lead, sitting eight points clear of rising star Luke Littler at the top of the Premier League standings. “I wasn’t expecting to do so well but it’s happening. I’m looking for two points week-in, week-out, and anything else is a bonus.”
Clayton’s ambition is clear: “I love it. I’m top of the league and that’s where I want to be. It’s hard to catch the ones on top.” He anticipates a tough contest against Humphries in Dublin, acknowledging his opponent’s tenacity. “I know that Luke will be coming out all guns blazing in Dublin as well but my aim is to win two points. I don’t care who I play against, I need two points on that board.”

Littler Aims to Close the Gap
Meanwhile, Luke Littler will be looking to chip away at Clayton’s commanding lead when he commences his Dublin campaign against Stephen Bunting. Littler, the reigning double world champion, secured his maiden nightly win in Cardiff a fortnight ago and will be hoping for further success on Irish soil.
A “Double Dutch” Encounter and Rock’s Struggles
The Dublin event also features an intriguing all-Dutch affair as Gian van Veen locks horns with Michael van Gerwen. Van Gerwen, a perennial favourite, is looking to bounce back after a surprising early exit from a recent European Tour event where he was the top seed. His performance in that tournament, where he was eliminated in his opening match, will no doubt fuel his determination to prove a point in Dublin.
In the other quarter-final, Josh Rock faces Gerwyn Price. Rock, in what has been a challenging debut Premier League campaign, is still searching for his first point. This encounter presents a significant opportunity for him to kickstart his season against the formidable Price.
The Premier League Darts continues to deliver thrilling action, with established stars and emerging talents battling it out for supremacy. As the season progresses, the pressure intensifies, and every point gained becomes crucial in the race for play-off qualification. The upcoming fixtures in Dublin promise more drama, strategic play, and the unwavering pursuit of victory from all the competitors.
