Iowa Cubs Suffer Heavy Defeat
In a challenging game for the Iowa Cubs, they fell to the Columbus Clippers (Guardians) with a final score of 12-8. The loss was marked by a rough performance from starting pitcher Connor Noland, who struggled early in the match.
Noland faced a tough time right from the start, allowing five runs in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the third. His final line showed seven runs on six hits over three innings, with three of those hits being home runs. He also walked three batters and struck out three.
The wind seemed to play a significant role in the game, as it was howling out to left at 17 miles per hour—seeming even stronger than that. Right fielder Kevin Alcántara took advantage of the conditions, hitting a home run that traveled 442 feet in the third inning with a man on base. This was his eighth home run of the season. Alcántara had an impressive day at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two walks.
In the fourth inning, first baseman Jonathon Long hit a solo home run, marking his second of the season. Long’s performance included 2 for 4 with a walk and three runs scored. His home run was notable, traveling 403 feet.
Third baseman Pedro Ramirez contributed significantly, going 2 for 4 with a walk and scoring three runs. Shortstop Ben Cowles also had a strong game, batting 3 for 4 with a walk and a stolen base. He drove in a run with a two-out single in the seventh inning.
Knoxville Smokies Face Tough Loss
The Knoxville Smokies were defeated by the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (Marlins) with a final score of 7-6. Starter Tyler Schlaffer started the game well but was soon overwhelmed. He gave up six runs in the second inning, which included four earned runs on six hits over 1.2 innings. Schlaffer walked one batter and struck out two.
Right fielder Alex Ramirez had a solid game, going 2 for 4 with a double and a walk, while center fielder Carter Trice also performed well, finishing 2 for 5 with a double and one run scored.
South Bend Cubs Hit by No-Hitter
The South Bend Cubs faced a difficult game against the Beloit Sky Carp (Marlins), losing 10-0. Brooks Caple started the game and took the loss after giving up five runs in the second inning. His final line showed five runs on four hits over three innings, with five strikeouts, two walks, and one batter hit by a pitch.
South Bend managed only three baserunners: Kane Kepley and Cameron Sisneros walked, while Kade Snell was hit by a pitch.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans Secure Victory
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans defeated the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (White Sox) with a final score of 7-3. Starter Mason McGwire delivered a strong performance, allowing just one hit and one hit batsman over four scoreless innings. He struck out five batters without issuing any walks.
Luis A. Reyes came in during the fifth inning and nearly allowed a six-run lead to slip away. He gave up three runs while retiring only one batter before Hayden Frank relieved him with the bases loaded and only one out in the inning. Frank kept the inherited runners from scoring and went on to get the win after 3.2 innings without allowing a run. Frank surrendered two hits, issued two walks, and struck out five.
First baseman Michael Carico hit a two-run home run in the second inning, contributing to the team’s victory. Carico went 1 for 2 with three walks. Center fielder Alexey Lumpuy had a strong game, going 2 for 5 with one run scored and two RBIs. Second baseman Ty Southisene also performed well, going 2 for 4 with a double and a stolen base, while scoring three runs.
