Dhoni Emerges as Top Individual Taxpayer in Bihar and Jharkhand
Dr. D. Sudhakara Rao, the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax for Bihar and Jharkhand, recently revealed a fascinating piece of information: former Indian cricket captain and current Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper MS Dhoni has become the top individual taxpayer in both regions. This achievement highlights his continued financial influence, even after retiring from international cricket.
While the exact amount of tax paid by Dhoni remains undisclosed, it is clear that he holds the number one position among individual taxpayers in these states. At 44 years old, Dhoni outperforms major industrial entities such as Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), and Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDI). The tax authorities have successfully collected an impressive INR 20,000 crore in taxes, with over 60% of this amount coming from Jharkhand alone.
Dr. D Sudhakara Rao emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, “The total collection from Bihar and Jharkhand during the financial year of 2025-26 was around Rs 20,000 crore, of which Rs 12,000 crore was collected only from Jharkhand.” He added, “M S Dhoni was the highest individual taxpayer combining Bihar and Jharkhand during the previous financial year.”
Despite retiring from international cricket more than five years ago, Dhoni remains one of the most beloved figures in Indian cricket. His continued association with CSK has kept him in the public eye, and he regularly appears in television commercials, ensuring a steady income stream.
Dhoni is currently recovering from a calf injury that he sustained just before the start of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). Although he is still part of the CSK squad and participates in training sessions with his teammates, he has not yet made an appearance on the field this season. This could potentially be his final season in the 20-over format.
CSK’s Playoff Prospects
Despite their inconsistent performance this season, CSK still has a chance to make the playoffs. The five-time champions are currently in sixth place with 10 points, just two points behind the fourth-placed team. Their next match is against the Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday, May 10, which will be crucial in determining their playoff chances.
Dhoni’s presence in the team continues to inspire fans and players alike, even as he navigates through personal challenges. His journey as a cricketer and businessman showcases the diverse ways in which he has contributed to the sports industry and the economy.
As the IPL season progresses, all eyes will be on Dhoni and his ability to return to the field and help CSK secure a spot in the playoffs. His legacy as a player and a taxpayer in Bihar and Jharkhand is a testament to his enduring impact on and off the cricket pitch.
