Dickinson Plant Expansion Begins

DICKINSON, N.D. – A water treatment plant in Dickinson is undergoing a significant transformation with the introduction of a new system and modernized infrastructure. The Southwest Water Authority has initiated an expansion project at one of its treatment facilities, aiming to enhance efficiency and reliability for the communities it serves.

The project commenced in May of last year, and crews are currently approximately one-third through the construction phase. At present, the system operates with two facilities: an older plant and a newer one that is being expanded. The ultimate goal is to transition all operations from the older facility into the newly upgraded one.

Perry Grammond, the manager of the Water Treatment Plant, expressed enthusiasm about the project’s potential impact. “This system is going to be reliable, well into the future. We’re very excited to have a brand new facility of this size and grand magnitude, really. We’re kind of one of the only systems with such a new facility,” he said.

Beyond Dickinson, the Southwest Water Authority provides essential water services to 32 other rural communities. Despite the upgrades, officials emphasize that the overall quality of the water will remain unchanged. However, the improvements will significantly increase the system’s capacity to treat water, ensuring a more robust supply for growing populations and future demands.

The expansion project is expected to reach completion by spring 2028. This milestone will mark a major step forward for the authority, positioning it as a leader in modern water treatment solutions. The new facility will not only support current needs but also provide the flexibility to adapt to future challenges in water management.

Key aspects of the project include:

  • Upgrading existing infrastructure to meet modern standards
  • Enhancing the system’s ability to process larger volumes of water
  • Ensuring long-term reliability and sustainability

The investment in this expansion reflects a commitment to public health and environmental stewardship. By modernizing the treatment process, the Southwest Water Authority is setting a benchmark for other regions facing similar challenges.

As the project progresses, residents and community leaders will continue to monitor the developments. The new facility is anticipated to bring numerous benefits, including improved service delivery and greater resilience against potential disruptions.

With the completion of this project, the Southwest Water Authority will be better equipped to serve its communities for years to come, ensuring that clean and safe water remains accessible to all.
