Parthiv Patel’s IPL Journey and Recent Social Media Encounter
Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel is currently serving as an assistant coach for the Gujarat Titans (GT) and also works as a talent scout. The 41-year-old recently addressed a social media query that questioned his IPL achievements, leading to an interesting exchange with fans.
The incident began when a fan on social media asked a trivia question about which Indian Premier League (IPL) player had never won the “Player of the Match” award despite playing for 13 seasons. The fan then suggested that Parthiv Patel was the answer, stating, “Parthiv Patel never won a single player of the match in 13+ IPL seasons.”
Parthiv noticed the comment because the fan had tagged him. In response, he humorously replied, “Sorry to disappoint,” and shared a photo showcasing his five Player of the Match awards from the league. His tweet quickly gained traction, receiving over 200,000 views and more than 100 replies. Many fans encouraged him to ignore the negative comments, and the original poster later apologized for their mistake.
Parthiv Patel’s IPL Career Highlights
Parthiv Patel made his IPL debut with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), where he helped the team win the title in 2010. He played alongside Matthew Hayden, who is now part of the Titans’ coaching staff. Together, they provided strong starts for the team at the top of the order.
After stints with Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Sunrisers Hyderabad (formerly Deccan Chargers), Patel moved to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He spent a year with RCB before joining the Mumbai Indians (MI) for three seasons. During his time with MI, he won the IPL title twice—2015 and 2017.
Following his departure from MI at the end of the 2017 season, Patel returned to RCB for two more seasons. His overall IPL career spanned 139 games, during which he scored 2,848 runs at an average of 22 and a strike rate of 120. He also managed to score 13 half-centuries throughout his career.
