A Celebration of Sport and Youth Development

The Dolly Children Foundation celebrated its 17th anniversary with a unique event that brought together young talents from the Magboro community in a week-long football tournament. This was the foundation’s first grassroots football competition, aimed at promoting sport and youth development.

It featured teams from various local schools and clubs, including Eagle School, NESGEL School, VI Foot, Gasline, and the hosts. The competition included both senior and junior categories, offering participants a chance to showcase their skills on a larger stage.

The tournament delivered a series of competitive matches, with Dolly Champions emerging as the winners of the senior category after a disciplined campaign. They started with a 2-0 victory over VI Foot before securing the title with a 1-0 win against NESGEL School in a tightly contested final.

In the junior division, VI Foot demonstrated strong performances throughout the competition. They secured a 4-0 win over Dolly Champions and a 3-0 victory against Eagle School. Their dominance continued in the final, where they defeated Dolly Champions again to claim the trophy.

Other notable matches included NESGEL School’s 2-1 win over Eagle School, while Dolly Champions managed a narrow 1-0 victory against Gasline. These results highlighted the competitiveness of the event and the high level of skill displayed by the participants.

Community Support and Recognition

The tournament received strong support from the local community, with several dignitaries in attendance. Among them were the foundation’s founder and chief executive officer, Mrs. Adedolapo Osuntuyi, along with local leaders and stakeholders who supported the initiative.

This event was part of the foundation’s broader efforts to promote grassroots sports development. By using football as a tool, the foundation aims to engage youths, foster unity, and create pathways for talent discovery. The tournament provided an opportunity for young players to gain experience, build teamwork, and develop their skills in a supportive environment.

A Step Toward Future Growth

With strong participation and enthusiasm from players and supporters alike, the event not only commemorated the foundation’s anniversary but also reinforced its vision of using sport as a vehicle for social impact. Organizers expressed confidence in expanding the tournament in future editions, aiming to reach more communities and inspire even more young athletes.

The success of this inaugural tournament highlights the potential of grassroots football to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people.
