Dreams dashed as Roosters star to undergo surgery

Roosters Face Setbacks as Key Players Injured

The Roosters are dealing with a growing list of injuries following a dramatic match at Allianz Stadium. Head coach Trent Robinson has provided a worrying update on one of the team’s key players, Mark Nawaqanitawase, who was expected to make a significant impact in the upcoming State of Origin series.

Nawaqanitawase, known for his explosive speed and ability to change the game in an instant, had expressed his eagerness to represent the Blues. However, his hopes of making an appearance in the series opener have been dashed due to a serious injury. The winger’s night took a turn for the worse when his foot became trapped under teammate Robert Toia, leading to a freak incident that could potentially derail his season.

Medical assessments suggest that Nawaqanitawase may be suffering from a syndesmosis injury, which typically requires surgical intervention. With a recovery period of 6 to 8 weeks, it seems highly unlikely that he will be available for the State of Origin series.

“His injury is a syndesmosis, and he looks like he’ll need surgery,” Robinson confirmed during a post-match press conference. “It’s not looking good for him.”

Nawaqanitawase wasn’t the only Rooster to suffer an injury during the match. Queensland’s hardworking player, Lindsay Collins, failed a head injury assessment before the half-time break and will not be making the trip to Gosford next Friday. His absence is a significant blow to the team, especially considering his role in the backline.

Another key player, Angus Crichton, also faced injury concerns. He had to leave the game in the second half due to a knee injury. Robinson mentioned that Crichton sustained a medial injury, and scans are currently being conducted to determine the extent of the damage.

“Gus had a medial injury. We’re having a look at that to see where he’s at, so he’s getting scans now,” Robinson explained. “But I probably could have left him out there, but he needed work multiple times, so that’s a medial. And then obviously Lindsay, he was pretty good there (in the sheds), he was pretty clear on what happened and everything, but not good enough to go back on.”

These setbacks highlight the challenges that the Roosters are facing as they prepare for the upcoming matches. The loss of key players like Nawaqanitawase, Collins, and Crichton could significantly affect the team’s performance. However, the coaching staff remains focused on ensuring that the injured players receive the necessary treatment and support to return to the field as soon as possible.

With the State of Origin series approaching, the Roosters will need to adapt their strategies and rely on other players to fill the gaps left by the injured squad members. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining how the team can recover and maintain their competitive edge.
