Sydney player Isaac Heeney has been named as the king of the AFL, according to Six Points co-host Daniel Harford.
Heeney delivered a standout performance during the Gather Round against Gold Coast on Saturday, recording 31 disposals, two goals, 11 tackles, 10 clearances and 10 goal assists. This impressive display placed him among the top contenders for the prestigious Brownlow Medal.
Speaking on the Six Points AFL Podcast, Harford praised Heeney as the “most complete” player in the league, stating that he has surpassed other notable players such as Marcus Bontempelli and Nick Daicos.
“What we need to do is crown the king of football,” Harford said. “I know there’s Marcus Bontempelli, and there are many who believe Nick Daicos is the best player in the game, but after only three games in 2026, I’m anointing a new king of football. His name is Isaac Heeney from the Sydney Swans.”
“He is the most complete and impactful player in the competition at the moment. He’s only played three games so far, but he’s averaging 21 disposals and 2.6 goals per game. He is the most important player in the game and the best player in the competition right now. This guy is the complete package.”
Fellow Six Points co-host Mark Stevens questioned why Heeney has risen to become the game’s best. The former Hawthorn midfielder responded by highlighting Heeney’s consistency.
“It seems to be his consistency,” Stevens said. “His ability to perform week-in, week-out. I know he’s missed a couple of weeks this year, so it’s not a full season for Isaac Heeney, but what he’s doing is remarkable.”
“He does it all. He performs at the contest, behind the ball when required, and then goes forward and hits the scoreboard. That’s the modern champion. The modern champion must be able to get the footy and hit the scoreboard, and Isaac Heeney does it better than anyone.”
“He’s a nightmare match-up in the forward 50. He’s the best player in the game.”
