Community Celebrates Final Day of Annual Book Sale
Lawton, Oklahoma – Book lovers gathered for the final day of the Friends of Lawton Public Library book sale. This annual event has become a cherished tradition for many in the community, offering a wide selection of books at affordable prices.
The Friends of Lawton Public Library organize this sale each year to support the library’s operations. The event is made possible through generous donations from local residents, who contribute every book that fills the library’s shelves. These donations not only help fund the sale but also ensure that the library can continue to provide valuable resources to the public.
Organizers anticipate that the sale will generate between ten and twelve thousand dollars. Every dollar collected directly benefits the library by purchasing new books and materials. This financial support plays a crucial role in maintaining and expanding the library’s collection, ensuring that it remains a vital hub for learning and discovery.
“Every year, the book sale is an exciting event,” said Patty Neuwirth, treasurer of the Friends of Lawton Public Library. “Thursday evening was our first day, and we had people lined up and ready to come in. It’s a lot of fun. People come in and say things like, ‘I read this and I think I bought this last year and donated it, but I’m going to buy it again just in case.’ It’s a great way to see all of our friends and share in the joy of reading.”
The book sale has become more than just a fundraising event; it is a celebration of the community’s love for literature and learning. Many attendees return year after year, eager to find hidden gems or reacquire favorite titles. The event fosters a sense of connection among participants, creating a shared experience that brings people together.
In addition to the annual sale, the library continues to accept book donations throughout the year. Donors can drop off their used books at the book drop located on the north side of the library. This ongoing effort ensures that the library always has a steady supply of books available for future sales and community use.
The Friends of Lawton Public Library remain committed to supporting the library’s mission of providing access to information, education, and cultural resources. Through events like the book sale, they demonstrate the power of community involvement in making a meaningful difference.
For those interested in contributing to the library’s collection, donating books is a simple yet impactful way to get involved. Whether it’s a well-loved novel, a reference guide, or a children’s book, every donation helps to enrich the library’s offerings.
As the final day of the sale comes to a close, the community reflects on the success of the event and looks forward to future opportunities to support the library. The Friends of Lawton Public Library continue to be a vital part of the local landscape, ensuring that the love of reading and learning remains alive for generations to come.
