Youth-Led Initiative to Shape Future Leaders
A youth-led organization, the Tinubu Young Generation Forum (TYGF), has launched a new leadership and mentorship initiative aimed at preparing young Nigerians for future leadership roles. This effort is part of broader efforts to support the Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to transform Nigeria through structured capacity building, skills development, and professional training.
The national president of the forum, Hon. Prince Kevin, emphasized this during a National Executive Committee meeting held in Abuja on Saturday. He highlighted that the initiative is designed to identify and train ambitious young people with leadership potential. The program focuses on providing mentorship, developing emotional intelligence, and equipping participants with governance-oriented skills to prepare them for responsible leadership roles.
The meeting’s agenda, titled “Youth stakeholders engagement and dialogue; Renewed Hope Agenda: Imperative of Nigerian youths’ dreams of yesterday, today and the future,” underscored the crucial role that Nigerian youths play as future leaders. Kevin explained that the TYGF was established to champion youth capacity building, mentorship, and empowerment through various activities such as workshops and professional training.
He reiterated the forum’s commitment to sustaining the Renewed Hope Agenda by grooming young Nigerians with leadership potential and preparing them for impactful roles in society. According to Kevin, the initiative draws inspiration from President Tinubu’s long-standing mentorship culture, which dates back to his time as Governor of Lagos State, Senator, and now President.
“Mr President has consistently supported and mentored aspiring leaders across generations. This forum seeks to institutionalise that mentorship and make it accessible to young people who aspire to serve and lead competently,” he said.
Kevin stressed the importance of investing in youth development, noting that many leadership challenges in the country stem from a lack of proper mentorship and leadership training at an early stage. He added that the forum, working with seasoned mentors and professionals, would focus on equipping young people with governance-oriented skills, emotional intelligence, and leadership values required for national development.
Launching the Initiative
The initiative will begin next year, starting from the grassroots level and expanding across all 36 states of the Federation. Kevin mentioned that the forum is currently engaging youths in collaboration with the government. They have conducted engagement programs for young people and continue mentoring them on skill development.
“We have been supporting youths on skill development training and empowerment. A lot of planning and stakeholder engagement is currently ongoing ahead of our next year’s program. We will be empowering them with work tools like sewing machines, clippers, and cameras, depending on what they plan to do,” he said.
He also highlighted that the forum has supported youths in their own way, using their resources to assist in empowering young people under the Renewed Hope Agenda since 2023.
Importance of Youth Development
Kevin emphasized that engaging and nurturing young Nigerians with leadership potential remains critical to securing a sustainable future for the country. He noted that the initiative is not just about leadership training but also about instilling values and preparing the youth to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Through this initiative, the TYGF aims to create a pipeline of skilled and capable young leaders who can drive positive change in Nigeria. By focusing on mentorship, emotional intelligence, and governance skills, the forum is laying the foundation for a more resilient and forward-thinking generation.
