GoPro Reveals Mission Series Price – I’m Surprised in a Good Way

GoPro Unveils New Mission 1 Series with Detailed Pricing

GoPro has officially launched its most advanced camera series yet, the GoPro Mission 1, but one key detail was missing from the initial announcement: the price. Now, at the NAB Show, the action camera leader has finally revealed the pricing for the Mission 1 Pro, Mission 1, and Mission 1 Pro ILS models.

In the United States, both the GoPro Mission 1 Pro and the upcoming Mission 1 Pro ILS mirrorless will list for $699, while the Mission 1 will be priced at $599. Existing GoPro subscribers can enjoy a $100 discount on these models. In the UK, the Mission 1 Pro and ILS are listed at £599, with the Mission 1 at £529. Subscribers in the UK get a £90 discount. In Canada, the Mission 1 Pro and ILS are priced at CA$949, and the Mission 1 is CA$819, with a CA$140 discount for subscribers. In Australia, the Mission 1 Pro and ILS are listed at AU$1099, while the Mission 1 is AU$949, offering an AU$150 discount to existing subscribers.

GoPro also opened pre-orders earlier than originally planned, citing unexpected early enthusiasm for the new series. Pre-orders are available directly from GoPro in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada for both the Mission 1 Pro and Mission 1. These pre-orders include a free point-and-shoot grip and a one-year GoPro Premium subscription. However, pre-orders for the Mission 1 Pro ILS are expected to launch in the third quarter of 2026.

When GoPro first announced the Mission series, I speculated that the price might be around twice the cost of the GoPro Hero13 Black’s $429 / £399 / AU$649 list price. I also expected the mirrorless model to be more expensive than the fixed lens versions. However, the final prices are less than twice the cost of the Hero13 Black, and the Mission 1 Pro ILS is priced the same as the Mission 1 Pro.

The Mission 1 series features a larger one-inch sensor capable of recording 8K video, with open gate support on the Pro models. The design includes a compact dual-screen chassis and waterproofing on the fixed lens cameras. The Mission 1 Pro is even being marketed as a cinema camera rather than an action camera, which typically commands a higher price.

The Mission 1, the most budget-friendly option in the series, offers the same sensor, stabilization, and waterproofing as the Pro model, but it tops out at 8K 30p and only supports open gate on 4K 120fps and lower resolutions.

How Does the GoPro Mission 1 Pro Price Compare?

Comparing the GoPro Mission 1 Pro to other cameras is challenging due to its unique features, but it’s not impossible. For example, compact vlogging cameras like the Sony ZV-1 II and Canon PowerShot V1 are priced around $899 or £870, but they lack the waterproofing and high-end video capabilities of the Mission series.

Looking at action cameras, the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 offers 8K video but only up to 30fps and uses a smaller 1/1.3-inch sensor, priced at $399. The DJI Pocket 4, with a one-inch sensor and 4K/120fps, is priced at £445, but it’s unavailable in the US due to the FCC’s DJI ban. The Sony RX0 II, a waterproof camera with a one-inch sensor, tops out at 4K video and costs $998.

Even the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema 4K, a budget cinema camera, uses larger Four Thirds sensors and is priced at $1,095.

A Crucial Moment for GoPro

GoPro needs the Mission series to succeed, especially after posting a $93.5 million loss and announcing a 23% staff reduction. The right pricing will likely determine how well the Mission series sells.

As a GoPro user and professional photographer, I’m excited to see how the Mission 1 specs perform in real-world use. Shipping begins on May 28.
