Guardiola praises Man City stars after massive Arsenal win as Haaland targets Gabriel

Pep Guardiola Hails Manchester City’s Resilience After Dramatic Win Over Arsenal

Manchester City has been given a significant boost in the Premier League title race following a thrilling 2-1 victory over Arsenal. The match, which saw both teams push each other to their limits, left fans on the edge of their seats with several close calls and dramatic moments.

Rayan Cherki and Erling Haaland found the back of the net, with Kai Havertz scoring an equalizer for Arsenal. The game was filled with intensity, as the woodwork was struck four times, highlighting the high stakes involved. This win has reignited hopes for City, who now have the opportunity to take the lead in the league by beating Burnley on Wednesday night.

Guardiola, known for his tactical brilliance, acknowledged the challenge posed by Arsenal but emphasized that his team is still very much in the running. “We were not in our best, I give a lot of credit to Arsenal but we are alive,” he said. “We are there, everybody is pushing.”

He added that while the current situation is tough, City’s position in the league is not as dire as it might seem. “We have a horrible calendar and we are not top of the league. So far they are the best team in England but we have extended the chance to fight until the end.”

Guardiola also downplayed the idea that the win has made City favorites, pointing out that momentum can shift quickly. “If I say the momentum has changed, say the momentum for Arsenal is bad when I’ve seen today them playing like this, how is this bad momentum?” he questioned. “They’re in the semi-finals of the Champions League, didn’t lose one game. Momentum shifts in one instance. They know it.”

City is currently monitoring the fitness of Rodri, who suffered a groin injury during the match. He is set to undergo scans on Monday to determine the extent of the issue. Meanwhile, Erling Haaland expressed his frustration over a controversial incident involving Gabriel, suggesting that a red card should have been shown.

“I think if I fell on the floor, which I will not do unless somebody really attacks me, it would maybe have been a red card,” Haaland said. “It is what it is. It’s always like this, a lot of fighting. What can I say? I won the battle in that decisive moment. It’s for other people to decide if I won the battle overall. I was quite happy, I have to be honest.”

Mikel Arteta Remains Confident Despite Setback

Despite the loss, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta remains optimistic about his team’s chances of winning the title. He insisted that his side is “even more convinced” they can secure the championship, even though they have only won one of their last six games across all competitions.

“We came here to win the game. I think the message was clear from three days before,” Arteta said. “We prepared to do that, to take the game to the areas that we believe we could win it. We certainly done that. So we proved that we are there.”

He acknowledged the importance of the margins in such high-stakes matches. “The chances where Arsenal went close have given Arteta hope, particularly Eze’s left-footed drive which rattled the goalframe and narrowly snuck out the goal.” He added: “I mean the margins are… we hit the post and I just look at the images. It’s incredible how the ball doesn’t go in. So there is an element of luck. There is an element there of timing, of execution.”

Arteta emphasized that the title race is far from over. “They were talking about it in the dressing room. It’s a new league now. They have a game in hand. We have a three-point advantage and five games to play. So everything is still to play for. We’re not going to stop and we’re going to go again, that’s for sure.”

With both teams having their sights set on the Premier League title, the upcoming fixtures will be crucial in determining who comes out on top. As the season reaches its climax, every match will carry immense significance.
