The “Celestial” Nose: Hollywood’s Latest Obsession and How You Can Get It
The red carpet at this year’s Oscars saw a surprising trend emerge, a subtle yet striking similarity amongst some of Hollywood’s most famous faces. Stars like Nicole Kidman, Anne Hathaway, and Margot Robbie, each possessing distinct facial structures – angular, round, and square respectively – all presented a unified aesthetic, largely due to a shared nasal feature. This coveted look, increasingly seen on celebrities such as Cara Delevingne, Lily Collins, and Victoria Beckham, is the upturned or ‘celestial’ nose. Characterised by a gentle slope and a delicately lifted tip, this particular nasal shape is becoming the new benchmark of desirable profile refinement.

For those dreaming of achieving this elegant profile, the good news is that the days of invasive surgery and lengthy recovery periods are rapidly becoming a relic of the past. The advent of liquid rhinoplasty offers a swift and minimally invasive solution. This procedure, utilising dermal fillers, can reshape and refine the nose in a matter of minutes, making it an ideal option for anyone wanting to look their absolute best for significant events, especially those involving photographs. The demand for this perfect profile is not confined to the red carpet; it’s a growing trend in everyday aesthetics.
In the UK, for instance, rhinoplasty procedures saw a significant 25 per cent increase last year. Social media platforms are now brimming with videos documenting transformations and recovery journeys, showcasing the accessibility and effectiveness of these modern techniques.
The Rise of Subtle Refinements
Dr. Ross Perry, medical director at Cosmedics, attributes this surge in popularity to society’s increasing fascination with subtle ‘tweakments’. He observes a clear convergence in Hollywood’s approach to nasal aesthetics, with a definite shift towards subtle refinement rather than drastic alterations.
“There’s definitely a noticeable convergence when it comes to nasal aesthetics in Hollywood, and this is veering towards subtle refinement rather than a dramatic change,” Dr. Perry explained. “The most in-demand look at the moment is what we’d describe as a ‘natural, balanced’ nose. This is typically characterised by a straight dorsum, a refined but not overly narrow bridge, and a softly defined tip that complements the individual’s facial proportions.”

The Camera-Ready Profile
The desire to look good on camera, regardless of the angle, is a primary driver behind the increasing popularity of rhinoplasty procedures. Dr. Perry highlights that the modern aesthetic goal is about achieving harmony rather than an unattainable ideal of perfection.
“The goal now is harmony rather than perfection, and noses that photograph well from all angles, particularly in the age of high-definition cameras and social media scrutiny,” he stated. “We’re also seeing a rise in our non-surgical rhinoplasty, where dermal fillers are used to smooth out irregularities and create the illusion of a straighter profile without surgery.”

Liquid Rhinoplasty: The Quick Fix
Non-surgical rhinoplasty, often referred to as a ‘liquid nose job’, is rapidly emerging as the preferred choice for individuals seeking a quick, minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgical rhinoplasty. It offers a way to achieve significant aesthetic improvements without the downtime and risks associated with surgery.
Individuality Remains Key
Despite the clear trend towards a specific nasal shape, Dr. Ross stresses the importance of maintaining individuality in aesthetic procedures. While trends can influence patient requests, the most successful outcomes are achieved by tailoring the procedure to the unique features of each individual, rather than simply replicating a celebrity look.
“I would add that while trends do influence requests, the best results come from tailoring the nose to the individual’s unique features, rather than replicating a one-size-fits-all celebrity look,” he advised.
Understanding Nose Shapes
To better understand the diversity of facial features, here’s a breakdown of common nose shapes:
- Straight: Characterised by a smooth bridge with minimal to no visible curve.
- Roman: Features a prominent or slightly curved bridge, often described as aquiline.
- Grecian: Exhibits a straight line from the forehead directly to the tip of the nose.
- Arched: Typically displays a noticeable curve along the bridge of the nose.
- Button: A small nose with a rounded tip and soft, gentle contours.
- Upturned/Celestial: Distinguished by a slightly lifted tip, giving a delicate upward tilt.
- Nubian: Generally has a longer bridge and a wider base.
- Flat: Possesses a lower bridge and a wider nasal base.
- Pointed: Features a sharper, narrower tip.
- Fleshy: Defined by thicker skin and a softer, rounder tip.
- Retrousse: A short nose with a distinctly upturned tip.
