Honor Watch X5i Launches in Australia: 3-Week Battery and Health Features

Honor has quietly launched a new budget smartwatch, and it’s clearly targeting a specific group of users. The Watch X5i focuses on simplicity, affordability, and design, making it an appealing option for those who want the essentials without the high price tag.

At first glance, the Watch X5i looks familiar. Its rectangular shape, curved edges, and overall layout resemble the Apple Watch. However, beneath the surface, it’s a much simpler device compared to more advanced models on the market. Instead of running on a full smartwatch platform, the X5i uses a lightweight RTOS (Real-Time Operating System), which means fewer apps and less complexity. This trade-off significantly improves battery life, with Honor claiming up to three weeks of use on a single charge in typical scenarios. Even with the always-on display enabled, the battery can last around six days, which is impressive for a device of this type.

The display itself is an AMOLED panel with a resolution of 450 x 390 pixels and a 60Hz refresh rate. While not cutting-edge, it’s more than sufficient for notifications, basic tasks, and everyday use. Additionally, there are over 180 customizable watch faces, giving users some flexibility in how they personalise their device.

In terms of health features, the Watch X5i covers the usual basics. It includes heart rate tracking, SpO2 monitoring, stress detection, sleep tracking, and menstrual cycle tracking. There are also 109 sports modes available, allowing users to track various workouts and monitor their progress. While the range of options is extensive, most users will likely stick to a few preferred modes.

One notable feature is the support for two-way Bluetooth calling. The watch comes with a speaker and microphone, enabling users to take calls directly from their wrist when connected to their phone. This makes it easier to handle calls without constantly reaching for a smartphone, especially in situations where convenience is key.

The build quality of the Watch X5i is relatively lightweight, featuring a plastic body and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. This should be adequate for daily use, though it isn’t designed for swimming or prolonged exposure to water.

The Watch X5i is compatible with both Android and iOS devices, which helps expand its appeal to a broader audience. At a price of 229 yuan (approximately $33), it’s not intended to compete with premium smartwatches. Instead, it offers the essential features in a design that appears more expensive than its cost suggests. For many users, the long battery life alone could be a strong selling point.

Currently, there is no official information about when the Watch X5i might launch outside of China. However, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it make its way to other markets soon, given the growing demand for affordable smartwatches.
