Japan’s Electric SUV Launches in Australia

Suzuki has unveiled the pricing and specifications for its new e Vitara electric compact SUV in Australia. This marks the first time an electric version of the popular Suzuki Vitara will be available for sale in the country, starting at $46,990 (drive-away) as part of a limited-time offer. The all-wheel drive variant of the car is priced $10,000 higher under this deal.

Key Features of the 2026 Suzuki e Vitara

The e Vitara is set to enter the market mid-year with confirmed specifications, aiming to compete against other electric compact SUVs such as the BYD Atto 2, Chery E5, Leapmotor B10, and MG S5 EV. It also faces competition from hybrid models like the Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid, BYD Sealion 5, and Honda HR-V e:HEV.

Prices for the e Vitara will increase by $3,000 on the Motion grade and $2,000 on the Ultra grade after the pre-order pricing expires on July 1st. This deal is only available to the first 100 customers.

The cheapest automatic petrol variant of the Vitara in Australia starts at $31,990 (before on-road costs), meaning that choosing the electric version incurs a significant premium for buyers.

In addition to the Kia EV3, which starts from $47,600 (before on-road costs), the e Vitara will also compete with more affordable Chinese rivals such as the BYD Atto 2 and the MG S5.

The e Vitara is offered with either a single electric motor, producing 106kW and 193Nm, or a dual motor that delivers 135kW and 307Nm. The base Motion variant provides a WLTP driving range of 344km from its 49kWh battery, while the AWD model with a 61kWh unit offers 395km. DC fast charging from 10% to 80% takes 45 minutes, thanks to a newly developed platform from Suzuki.

Inside the vehicle, there is a single display spanning the dashboard, consisting of a 10.1-inch central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display.

The Ultra grade of the e Vitara includes a glass roof with a shade and a wireless phone charger, along with a premium sound system. Additional features include:

  • Rain-sensing wipers
  • Synthetic leather steering wheel
  • Front and rear USB ports
  • Ambient lighting
