TOPEKA (KSNT) – The K-State baseball team managed to take the series against Arizona, but fell short of securing a sweep in the final game of the weekend. In a back-and-forth contest on Sunday, the Wildcats lost 11-7 to the Wildcats, ending their hopes for a clean sweep.
K-State’s record now stands at 25-15 overall and 9-9 within the Big 12 Conference. Despite a strong effort in the third inning, where they scored four runs—including a two-run home run by Nick English—the team was unable to maintain momentum. Arizona quickly responded with seven consecutive runs over the next four innings, shifting the tide of the game in their favor.
In the eighth inning, Bear Madliak hit a three-run home run to bring the score within two runs, but Arizona closed out the game with two more runs, sealing their victory. Robert Fortenberry took the loss on the mound for K-State, throwing four innings and allowing six hits and five runs (three earned). He also struck out four batters during his time on the field.
Tazwell Butler, Adam Arther, and Aaron Arnold provided relief pitching for the Wildcats, though they were unable to reverse the outcome of the game. With the loss, K-State will remain on the road for a midweek matchup against Grand Canyon on Tuesday. The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. local time.
