Klopp’s Agent: Man Utd & England Chased Ex-Liverpool Manager

Klopp’s Agent Claims Manchester United and Chelsea Made Approaches, England Job Also Offered

Jurgen Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, has sensationally claimed that both Manchester United and Chelsea approached the highly sought-after German manager for their vacant positions following his departure from Liverpool. Furthermore, Kosicke suggested that Klopp was also a potential candidate for the England national team manager role after stepping down from Anfield at the end of the 2023-24 season.

However, sources close to both Manchester United and Chelsea have vehemently denied any contact with Klopp, either directly or through his representatives. The Press Association understands that both clubs strongly refute these claims.

Speaking to Transfermarkt, Kosicke stated, “Even Chelsea and Manchester United inquired, although Jurgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England. These inquiries keep coming.” This assertion paints a picture of persistent interest from top English clubs, despite Klopp’s expressed desire to take a break from club management in the Premier League.

Klopp, who spent nine successful years at Liverpool, also had previous managerial stints with Mainz and Borussia Dortmund. He has recently taken up a new role as head of global football for Red Bull, a position he is reportedly very content with.

A Future Return to the Dugout?

While Klopp is currently enjoying his new responsibilities with Red Bull, Kosicke did not rule out a potential return to the intense world of club management in the future. “Maybe at some point he’ll say he needs to smell the locker room again,” Kosicke mused. “But at the moment he’s very, very happy in his role.” This leaves the door open for a possible dugout comeback, should the right opportunity arise.

The agent also highlighted Klopp’s immense satisfaction with his career achievements. “He’s extremely happy with what he’s achieved. And it’s still wonderful to go down in history as one of the few coaches who only managed three clubs and were never fired.” This sentiment underscores Klopp’s pride in his consistent success and his ability to build lasting legacies at the clubs he has managed.

International Management Interest

Beyond club football, Kosicke revealed that Klopp was also a target for several national teams. “Before joining Red Bull, Jurgen could have coached the USA or England. Probably also Germany, if Julian Nagelsmann hadn’t already been there,” Kosicke remarked.

He further elaborated on the timing of these approaches. According to Kosicke, the United States made an offer to Klopp before ultimately appointing Mauricio Pochettino in September 2024. Separately, the Football Association reportedly named Thomas Tuchel as Gareth Southgate’s successor in January 2025. It is understood that Tuchel has since signed an extended contract with the England national team, running until Euro 2028.

The Football Association has been approached for comment regarding these claims about their managerial search.

This series of claims from Klopp’s agent suggests a significant level of interest in the German manager from various high-profile footballing entities, even as he takes a sabbatical from the dugout. His future remains a topic of keen interest for football fans worldwide.
