Kogi State Security Forces Announce Major Breakthrough in Bandit Operations
Kogi State, Nigeria – In a significant stride against organized crime, the Kogi State Police Command has announced the successful neutralisation of numerous bandits and the dismantling of their operational networks. This decisive action was the result of a robust, ongoing joint security operation that has been yielding substantial results across the state. The success is attributed to a collaborative effort involving the Nigerian Police Force and the military, bolstered by crucial support from the Nigeria Police Force Air Wing. “The ongoing onslaught against bandit operations in Kogi State by the joint police and military has yielded fruitful results,” stated William Aya, spokesperson for the Command. “Bandits were flushed out, their networks dislodged, and scores were neutralised.”
Aya elaborated on the execution of the operation, highlighting its professionalism and effectiveness. “The operation, which is being carried out with vigour, commitment, and utmost professionalism, and supported by the Nigeria Police Force Air Wing components through precision air strikes, led to these successes,” he added. Recent Intensification of Criminal Activity
The announcement comes in the wake of a recent surge in criminal activities attributed to suspected bandits across various parts of Kogi State. This period has seen a disturbing increase in incidents, prompting concern among local communities and authorities.
Attacks on Religious Institutions: Between October and December, two churches were targeted by suspected bandits. These attacks led to significant apprehension and prompted the Obaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Owoniyi, in conjunction with the Christian Association of Nigeria in Kabba, to issue a temporary ban on all religious activities. This measure was put in place to ensure the safety and security of congregants until the situation could be stabilised.
Recent Kidnapping Incident: As recently as Saturday, residents of Zango in Lokoja reported hearing sporadic gunshots. Following this disturbance, four members of the same family were reportedly kidnapped by fleeing suspects. Tragically, an elderly woman and a child from the affected family were later abandoned by the perpetrators. This incident highlights the continued threat posed by these criminal groups and the urgent need for effective security measures.
