Kwankwaso Loyalists Deny Defection Rumors

Kwankwasiyya Movement Denies Defection Rumours, Affirms Commitment to NNPP

The Kwankwasiyya Movement, a dedicated faction supporting former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, has vehemently refuted recent claims suggesting that the former senator is contemplating a move to a different political party. The movement unequivocally states that Kwankwaso remains a steadfast member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

This firm declaration was solidified during resolutions adopted at a Kwankwasiyya State Caucus meeting. The gathering took place on Friday at the Amana Hall, situated within Kwankwasiyya House on Miller Road in Kano.

Recent media reports had circulated, hinting at Kwankwaso’s potential defection to the African Democratic Congress. These rumours were reportedly fuelled by speculation surrounding Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf’s alleged intentions to switch allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a decisive response to these reports, the Kwankwasiyya Movement issued a statement on Saturday. The statement, released by the Kano Caucus Chairman, Mato Ibrahim, clearly dissociated the movement from any public pronouncements or calls urging Kwankwaso or its members to abandon the NNPP.

The group unequivocally labelled the circulating reports as fabricated and misleading. They issued a strong advisory to all members, supporters, and the wider public, urging them to disregard these unsubstantiated rumours entirely.

Reaffirming Loyalty and Political Stance

The caucus reiterated its unwavering commitment to the NNPP, emphasizing that both Senator Kwankwaso and the entirety of the Kwankwasiyya Movement are deeply entrenched within the party’s structure. Furthermore, the statement clarified that no individual or group has been granted the authority to advocate for or initiate defection proceedings on behalf of the movement.

The official statement read in part: “The Caucus reaffirmed that His Excellency, Senator Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, and the entire Kwankwasiyya Movement remain firmly within the New Nigeria Peoples Party, and that no directive, approval, or encouragement has been given to any individual or group to agitate for defection, emphasising that any future political or strategic decision will be formally communicated only through recognised leadership structures and by the grand leader himself.”

This underscores a critical point: any significant political or strategic decisions concerning the movement’s future will be subjected to formal consultation processes. Such decisions will be officially disseminated solely through the movement’s established leadership channels and directly from Senator Kwankwaso himself.

Maintaining Unity and Discipline

The movement has also issued a directive to its members, urging them to maintain a state of calm and discipline. They are advised to remain focused on the movement’s objectives and to actively avoid engaging with rumours and speculation. Unauthorized interactions with the media are also discouraged, as these can potentially undermine the unity and internal cohesion of the Kwankwasiyya Movement. The emphasis is placed on safeguarding the collective strength and solidarity of the group.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement’s strong denial of defection rumours serves as a clear signal of their continued dedication to the New Nigeria Peoples Party. This definitive stance aims to quash any misinformation and reassure their supporters of their unwavering political direction. The movement’s leadership has stressed the importance of relying on official communication channels for any future announcements, thereby reinforcing their commitment to transparency and structured decision-making. The focus remains on internal cohesion and the strategic advancement of their political agenda within the current party framework.
