Louisiana’s LHSAA softball postseason kicked off this weekend, marking the start of the state’s bi-district playoffs across various divisions. The tournament saw a mix of expected outcomes and a few surprises, with many top seeds advancing smoothly while some lower-ranked teams managed to make an impact.
In the Non-Select brackets, the first round featured several upsets, particularly in Division II and Division III. In Division II, the #17 DeRidder [LA] Dragons defeated the #16 Minden [LA] Crimson Tide with a score of 8-5, and the #19 Eunice [LA] Battling Bobcats overcame the #14 Jennings [LA] Bulldogs by a final of 7-5. Meanwhile, in Division III, the #17 Church Point [LA] Bears dominated the #16 Red River [Coushatta, LA] Bulldogs with a 16-0 victory, and the #20 Vidalia [LA] Vikings upset the #13 Caldwell Parish [Columbia, LA] Spartans with a 16-2 win—this being the largest upset of the first round.
In the Select brackets, only one major upset occurred. The #17 Willow School [New Orleans, LA] Lions bested the #16 Madison Prep [Tallulah, LA] Jaguars with a close 9-7 victory.

The Walker [LA] Wildcats are ranked No. 49 nationally. They received a bye in the first round and will face the #16 Central [Baton Rouge, LA] Wildcats, who defeated the #17 Southside [Youngsville, LA] Sharks with a 12-2 score. This matchup is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, at Walker.
Division III Select
The Calvary Baptist Academy [Shreveport, LA] Cavaliers hold the top spot in the state and are ranked No. 3 nationally. They also received a first-round bye but will return to action on Tuesday, hosting the Fisher [Lafitte, LA] Gators. The Gators advanced after defeating the Metairie [LA] Park Country Day Cajuns with a 26-1 victory.
