San Diego Padres Secure Victory with Strong Pitching and Key Hits
In a tightly contested game against the Los Angeles Angels, the San Diego Padres emerged victorious with a 2-1 win on Sunday. The victory was highlighted by outstanding pitching from the Padres’ bullpen and crucial hits from key players.

Mason Miller played a pivotal role in securing the win for the Padres. He closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning, striking out two batters to record his eighth save of the season. Miller’s performance extended his impressive scoreless streak, bringing him just one inning away from tying the Padres’ all-time record set by Cla Meredith in 2006. So far this season, Miller has recorded 27 strikeouts and only two walks in 11 1/3 innings of work, allowing just two hits.

The Padres’ offensive contributions were also significant. Xander Bogaerts broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with an RBI single, and Bryce Johnson added another run in the seventh inning with a clutch RBI hit. Both of these key moments came with two outs, showcasing the team’s ability to capitalize on opportunities. Johnson ended the game with two hits, marking his first multihit game of the season.

Michael King was the starting pitcher for the Padres, delivering a strong performance over five shutout innings. He struck out six batters while walking four, navigating through several tough situations. The Padres’ bullpen, including Ron Marinaccio, Kyle Hart, and Bradgley Rodriguez, maintained the lead throughout the rest of the game.

Despite a late rally attempt from the Angels, they were unable to tie the game. Pinch-hitter Oswald Peraza doubled in the seventh inning, and Zach Neto drove him in with an RBI groundout. However, the Angels struggled offensively, going 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position and striking out 11 times.
Walbert Ureña made his first career start for the Angels, recording eight strikeouts and allowing two runs over six-plus innings. His performance made him the fourth pitcher in franchise history to achieve at least eight strikeouts in his debut.
