A New Era at Manchester United
Matheus Cunha has been vocal about the positive impact Michael Carrick has had on Manchester United since taking charge. The Brazilian forward believes Carrick has brought a sense of “magic” to the club, reminiscent of Sir Alex Ferguson’s legendary reign.
Carrick’s appointment came after Ruben Amorim left for the Portuguese national team, and the transition has proven to be a success. His leadership has already secured Champions League football for next season, with United overcoming strong competition from Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool in the process.
Cunha, who scored the opening goal in the 3-2 victory over Liverpool, was full of praise for his head coach. He described Carrick as someone who brings a unique energy and vision to the team. “We’re learning so much, of course,” Cunha said. “When Michael [Carrick] came, he came with magic! [Sir] Alex Ferguson vibes. He talks so much about his team, the conquering team. This feeling comes to us. We feel so happy with the information, we focus so hard to reach the objective.”
He added, “At the end of the day, this is just the start of the journey, it’s the beginning – a beautiful beginning!”

Despite a shaky second half where United lost their two-goal lead, the team managed to recover and secure a dramatic win. Man of the match Kobbie Mainoo scored the winning goal, making it the first time in a decade that United have beaten Liverpool twice in a single season.
Cunha reflected on the significance of the win, saying, “I think it’s a journey we expected to come. It’s unbelievable. These kind of games are the ones anyone wants to play. When we win, I think it feels the best possible way.”
He also highlighted the importance of the first half, stating, “I think this week was very important. It’s the biggest game in England and everybody is so motivated. When we started the game, I think we were there. We were so focused to do what we trained to do. First half we did that.”
On his goal, Cunha admitted that he had been the subject of some light-hearted jokes in the dressing room about not scoring enough. “The guys come to me and joke so much inside of the locker room – I think I was lucky to finish the play there!” he joked, marking his ninth goal of the season.

“I’m happy to strike it and be lucky. The ball is in the net, that’s the only thing that’s important.”
Under Carrick’s leadership, including his interim spell in 2021, United have enjoyed a remarkable run at home. They have won eight of their nine league home games, losing only once. With one remaining home game against Nottingham Forest, the team will look to maintain their momentum as they prepare for matches against Sunderland and Brighton.
This season has seen a transformation under Carrick, and players like Cunha are clearly embracing the new direction. The future looks bright for Manchester United, and fans are hopeful that this is just the beginning of a successful chapter under Carrick’s guidance.
