Matt Fitzpatrick Claims Victory at RBC Heritage in Dramatic Playoff
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC. – In a thrilling finish to the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links, Matt Fitzpatrick emerged victorious after a hard-fought playoff against Scottie Scheffler. The win marked a significant moment for Fitzpatrick, who had been in control of the tournament for multiple days leading up to Sunday.

Fitzpatrick closed out the final round with a 1-under 70, but his journey to victory was not without challenges. A late stumble allowed Scheffler to gain momentum, ultimately forcing an extra hole to determine the winner. However, Fitzpatrick proved to be the stronger player in the playoff, showcasing precision and composure when it mattered most.

In the playoff, Fitzpatrick delivered a flawless approach shot that landed on the green, followed by a decisive birdie putt that sealed the victory. His performance in the final round was nothing short of impressive, as he started strong with birdies on the first and third holes, moving to 19-under par and extending his lead.
From there, Fitzpatrick maintained steady play, stringing together a long stretch of pars, including a crucial save from a distance on the 11th hole. This display of consistency helped keep the momentum in his favor throughout the day.

Scheffler, however, refused to back down. The world’s top-ranked player gradually worked his way back into contention, starting with a birdie on the ninth hole that narrowed the gap. He continued to apply pressure on the back nine, showing his resilience and determination.
At the 15th hole, Scheffler nearly holed out from the bunker, converting a birdie that brought him within two strokes of Fitzpatrick. Another birdie on the 16th hole pulled him within a single shot as they headed to the final hole.
Both players missed the green on 18 during regulation. Scheffler managed to get up-and-down for par, finishing his round with a 67 and posting a total of 18-under par. Fitzpatrick, needing par to win, struggled with a misplayed chip and missed his par putt, recording his only bogey of the day and forcing the playoff.

Back on the 18th for the extra hole, Fitzpatrick quickly regained control. His approach shot landed safely on the putting surface, while Scheffler’s did not. With the advantage, Fitzpatrick capitalized on the birdie opportunity to close out the match.
Earlier in the day, Gary Woodland provided a highlight reel moment with an eagle on the 18th hole. He holed an approach shot from 204 yards, moving to 11-under par and adding excitement to the tournament.

This victory marks Fitzpatrick’s second win in his last three starts and the fourth of his PGA Tour career. It also places him among just two players with multiple wins this season, alongside Chris Gotterup.
Scheffler’s runner-up finish adds to an already impressive stretch, marking his second consecutive week finishing in second place following his performance at the Masters, where he finished behind Rory McIlroy.
With another big win secured, Fitzpatrick continues to build momentum as the PGA Tour season moves forward, solidifying his position as one of the top contenders in the sport.
