Mega Mini Egg Hunt: Cadbury’s Easter Giant Revealed

Cadbury Unveils a Mega Mini Egg: Australia’s Chocolate Dreams Come True

Australia’s love affair with Cadbury Mini Eggs is no secret. From supermarket taste tests that highlight our preferences to the sheer joy of discovering a bag in our Easter baskets, these iconic chocolate treats hold a special place in our hearts. Now, the confectionery giant has taken our obsession to a whole new level by unveiling the world’s largest Mini Egg, a colossal creation dubbed the “Mega Mini Egg.”

This magnificent chocolate marvel tips the scales at a staggering 55 kilograms. To put that into perspective, it’s roughly the same weight as an adult cheetah, a substantial Western grey kangaroo, or even a giant armadillo. In simpler terms, this single chocolate egg is equivalent to an astounding 743 standard bags of Mini Eggs – that’s a truly epic amount of deliciousness!

Measuring approximately 70 centimetres tall, the Mega Mini Egg is currently on display at Cadbury World in Birmingham, UK, until April 12th. It’s a testament to the skill and dedication of Cadbury’s in-house chocolatiers, Claire Fielding, Dawn Jenks, and Donna Pitt, who dedicated two full days to bring this sweet behemoth to life.

The Mega Mini Egg faithfully replicates the beloved features of its smaller counterpart. It boasts that signature, crisp, pastel pink sugar shell, adorned with the subtle speckles that make Mini Eggs so recognisable. Just imagining that crunchy exterior giving way to the smooth chocolate centre is enough to make anyone’s mouth water. While it’s a spectacular showpiece, sadly, this giant egg is not for sale or consumption, a fact that might be a little disheartening for some devoted fans.

The inspiration behind this monumental egg stems from the overwhelming popularity of a giant Cadbury Creme Egg created for Easter last year. That earlier creation was reported to be the height of an emperor penguin and weighed around 45 kilograms.

“Following the incredible reception to last year’s gigantic Cadbury Creme Egg, we knew we had to craft something equally fantastic for this year,” explained chocolatier Claire Fielding. “Cadbury Mini Eggs are another absolute favourite and a quintessential British Easter staple, so creating the Mega Mini Egg felt like the perfect next challenge. We took that instantly recognisable shell and chocolate centre and scaled it up into a real showstopper.”

Experiencing this colossal confection in person does come with a price tag exceeding that of a typical bag of Mini Eggs. A standard pre-booked ticket to Cadbury World costs £19 (booking in advance is essential, according to their website). For a family of four, the outing to see this impressive egg would set you back £68 or more, making it a significant, albeit sweet, investment.

Craving Edible Mini Eggs? Here’s Where to Find the Best

If the thought of the Mega Mini Egg has sparked a craving for the real deal, and a trip to Birmingham isn’t feasible, your local supermarket is the next best destination. Our recent taste test has crowned Marks & Spencer’s Speckled Eggs as the reigning champions of the Mini Egg world. They not only matched Cadbury’s flavour but also came in at a delightful 25 pence cheaper per bag.

Hot on their heels, and proving that their taste and appearance are hard to beat, were the classic Cadbury Mini Eggs, securing a very close second place. While slightly more expensive, their enduring appeal is undeniable.

Taking out third place were Lidl’s Mister Choc Mini Eggs. These missed out on a higher ranking due to feedback describing them as ‘overly sweet’ and having a ‘little artificial’ taste. Following in fourth were Poppets Poppeggs, and rounding out our top five were The Crackin’ Up Mini Chocolate Speckled Eggs from Morrisons.

So, whether you’re dreaming of a Mega Mini Egg or simply indulging in your favourite edible version, there’s plenty of chocolatey goodness to go around. It’s time to treat yourself!
