Miley Cyrus Reflects on Her “Weed Era” During Hannah Montana Days
Miley Cyrus, the global pop sensation, has candidly revisited a significant period of her life, admitting to being in her “weed era” while filming the beloved Disney Channel show Hannah Montana. The 33-year-old star made this surprising revelation during a recent interview with Variety, where she participated in a game guessing Hannah Montana song lyrics.

The revelation came as Cyrus struggled to recall a specific line from the 2009 hit, “Hannah Means Everything to Me.” At just 15 years old during the filming of Hannah Montana: The Movie, Cyrus found herself unable to place the dialogue.
A Line from the Past
The lyric in question, “Hannah means everything to me,” proved elusive for the singer. She mused aloud, questioning whether the line belonged to the final episode of the series or if it was from the movie. “I could imagine Miley Stewart being like, ‘Hannah means everything to me…but,'” she pondered. “I don’t know. A line? Who could’ve said this? ‘Hannah means everything to me.’ Not something I said…in real life? Is this a Miley Stewart thing…is this the movie?”

Cyrus then speculated if the line was uttered just before Hannah Montana was about to reveal her secret identity to the town, following a rendition of her hit song “The Climb.” When informed by the interviewer that her guess was incorrect, Cyrus lightheartedly confessed, “I must’ve been in the weed era. What is this?”
Embracing Sobriety
Miley Cyrus has been sober for several years, having given up alcohol in 2020 and marijuana in 2017. In a candid interview with Apple Music 1 in May 2025, she spoke passionately about how this decision has profoundly transformed her life.
“I’ve learned this about myself over the years,” she shared. “The sobriety is like, that’s like my God. I need it, I live for it. I mean that it’s changed my entire life.”

The shift towards sobriety was also discussed during a 2017 appearance on The Tonight Show to promote her album Younger Now. Cyrus explained to host Jimmy Fallon why she decided to quit smoking marijuana.
“I’ve always been very stoned on your shows…” she admitted. “I stopped smoking because to sit here and talk about what I’m doing, I wanted to be clear. Because I’m actually the most passionate about what I’m doing with this record than I’ve been—I say this every time, but I loved making this record so, so much. and this record for me at this moment is the most important album that I’ve ever made.”
Not Ashamed of Her Disney Roots
As Cyrus prepares to feature in a Hannah Montana 20th-anniversary special, set to premiere on March 24, she has made it clear that she harbours no shame about her Disney past.

“A lot of artists feel like to become the next version of themselves, they have to leave something behind,” she stated in an interview published on Wednesday. “But I’d rather be more like a gorgeous patchwork blanket. I’d rather take every little piece of all the things that I’ve been and create a mosaic of exactly who I am now — not trashing any of that past but allowing it to come with me.”
The pop star expressed her hope that the upcoming special will encourage viewers to adopt a more lighthearted perspective. “I hope it inspires people to not take everything so seriously,” she concluded.
