MSU Spring Plant Sale Raises Over $40K

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – The Student Horticulture Association recently held the MSU Spring Show Plant Sale over the weekend, offering a wide variety of plants to the community. The event was a major success, with approximately 6,000 plants available for purchase.

This year marks a significant milestone for the association as it celebrates its 125th anniversary. To commemorate this occasion, the theme of the plant sale was “Seasons of Pixie Hollow,” which aimed to create an enchanting experience for visitors. The theme focused on plants that evoke the feeling of being in a magical forest, blending nature with a touch of fantasy.

Larisa Draaisma, the vice president of the Student Horticulture Association, emphasized the importance of the event beyond just selling plants. She explained, “This kind of goes back into helping, supporting our environment, because the more plants you got, the more greenery you have in your yard, the more biodiversity you have, the more beneficial it’s going to be for the local environment across the area.”

The plant sale not only served as a celebration of the association’s long history but also as a way to promote environmental awareness and sustainability. By encouraging people to grow more plants, the association hopes to foster a greener and more biodiverse community.

The event was also a financial success, raising over $40,000 to support the operations and future projects of the Student Horticulture Association. This funding will help the organization continue its mission of promoting horticulture and environmental stewardship.

In addition to the plant sale, the event provided an opportunity for students and community members to connect and learn about the benefits of gardening and plant care. It also highlighted the role that such organizations play in preserving and enhancing local ecosystems.
