My Darling California Stars Chris Evans Instead of Josh Brolin

Chris Evans Returns to the Big Screen with New Projects

Chris Evans is preparing for his 13th appearance in the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time in Avengers: Doomsday. However, this isn’t the only project he’s involved in this year. Recent reports indicate that the 44-year-old actor has joined the cast of a crime thriller titled My Darling California, replacing Josh Brolin, who had to step down due to scheduling conflicts.

A Star-Studded Cast

According to Deadline, Chris Evans will be joining a stellar lineup of actors, including Jessica Chastain, Chris Pine, Mikey Madison, Charles Melton, and Don Cheadle. The film is written and directed by Elijah Bynum, who brings a unique vision to the project. Set in Los Angeles during the 1980s, My Darling California follows the intertwined lives of a TV host, his impatient wife, a country musician, two crooks, and a former con artist as they navigate their attempts to find a better life. Their paths cross when a single crime changes everything.

The movie is still in pre-production, with filming expected to begin in September. David Hinojosa, Alex Coco, and Sébastien Reybaud are producing the project, while Zach Nutman serves as executive producer. Anton, a European producer-financier, is financing the film and will also co-represent its U.S. and global rights with CAA Media Finance.

Captain America’s Return

While My Darling California may not be released for another year or two, Chris Evans is already generating excitement for his return as one of Marvel’s most iconic superheroes, Captain America. This comes as a surprise, given that it seemed Steve Rogers, his character, had moved on after passing the mantle to Sam Wilson at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

At CinemaCon 2026, a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday revealed Chris Evans reprising his role. In a high-octane moment, Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth) says the Avengers will “need a miracle” to fight Victor Von Doom (Robert Downey Jr.). Just as Thor seems to give up, Evan Rogers appears and pulls Mjolnir from his teammate’s grasp.

“Hey, pal,” he greets Thor, who then prepares to face Dr. Doom. Although the trailer hasn’t been made public yet, this moment is expected to generate massive online buzz. For fans of Chris Evans, this is indeed an exciting time.
